Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung (1) zum Reinigen einer Oberfläche (2) umfassend eine Steuerungseinheit (14), ein bewegliches Reinigungselement (7) und einen Elektromotor (15) zum Bewegen des Reinigungselements (7). Die Steuerungseinheit (14) ist so konfiguriert, dass während eines Reinigungsvorgangs der Oberfläche (2) eine Stromversorgung des Elektromotors (15) vorübergehend unterbrochen wird und die Steuerungseinheit (14) nach der Unterbrechung anhand eines erfassten Stromstärkenverlaufs (20) des Elektromotors (15) den Zustand einer zu reinigenden Oberfläche ermittelt.Es können so beispielsweise übermäßig stark verschmutze Bereiche einer Oberfläche detektiert werden.Die Erfindung betrifft auch ein Verfahren zum Reinigen einer Oberfläche.
