In a first mode of operation, the power density spectrum is measured and it is established how their respective maxima are positioned with respect to each other, and the sum thereof is formed. The difference between the local minimum of the sum, which lies between the two maxima of the sum, and the power density between the two maxima of the sum is reduced. Zum Betrieb eines Induktionskochfeld mit einer Kochfeldplatte, mindestens zwei Induktionsheizspulen darunter, einer Kochfeldsteuerung, und einem Leistungsteil für eine Leistungsversorgung der Induktionsheizspulen werden die beiden Induktionsheizspulen gemeinsam mit Leistung versorgt und mit jeweils einem Leistungsdichtespektrum mit genau einem Maximum betrieben. In einem ersten Betriebsmodus werden die Leistungsdichtespektren gemessen, und es wird festgestellt, wie ihre jeweiligen Maxima zueinander liegen, und es wird deren Summe gebildet. Dann wird der Unterschied in der Leistungsdichte zwischen einem lokalen Minimum der Summe, das zwischen den zwei Maxima der Summe liegt, und den zwei Maxima der Summe reduziert. Dazu werden die Einschaltzeit und/oder die Ausschaltzeit mindestens eines der Leistungsschalter variiert, um das Leistungsdichtespektrum der Leistungsversorgung aktiv zu ändern.
