[origin: WO2022136394A1] The invention relates to a converter for alternating current systems, in particular three-phase systems, having two or more than two phases (U, V, W), one arm (13) or two arms (1, 2) with converter modules (5) connected in series and a phase connection (3) being provided for each phase (U, V, W), and each arm (1, 2, 13) of a phase (U, V, W) being connected to a corresponding arm (1, 2, 13) of each other phase (U, V, W) via a conductive connection (4) with uniform potential. For each arm (1, 2, 13) of a phase (U, V, W), the converter module (5) attached to the conductive connection (4) is connected to an equalisation unit (10), which permits an energy transfer between the arm (1, 2, 13) of the one phase (U, V, W) and an arm (1, 2, 13) of another phase (U, V, W).
