The invention relates to a tensioning device 1 for pre-stressing, post-tensioning or providing a confining pressure to a structure 2, in particular a concrete structure 2. The tensioning device 1 comprises a sheet 3, in particular a steel sheet 3 and at least one roller 6 for tensioning the sheet 3. The sheet 3 is wrapped around the roller 6. The roller 6 is designed such that the sheet 3 is gripped and/or tensioned by a rotation of the roller 6.The invention also relates to a method for pre-stressing, post-tensioning or providing a confining pressure to a structure 2 using a tensioning device 1 and to the use of a roller 6 for pre-stressing, post-tensioning or providing a confining pressure to a structure as well as the use of a roller 6 for restressing, detensioning or releasing a confining pressure from a structure 2.
