Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2603502A] A system 1 is provided for detecting removal of a spare wheel 3 from a vehicle 5, for example as a result of theft. System 1 has a first sensor (47, Figure 4), such as a normally-closed microswitch, for detecting the absence of spare wheel 3, and outputs a first signal when spare wheel 3 is absent. A transmitter 53 transmits a wireless signal S-n to a receiver in vehicle 5, and a control unit (51, Figure 6) with one or more controllers (64, Figure 6). The controllers receive the first signal and output a first alert signal dependent on receipt of the first signal from the first sensor 47. The system may have a second sensor for detecting movement of system 1 relative to vehicle 5. A vehicle, method and computer-readable medium are also provided.
