[origin: WO2022171410A1] The invention relates to a track-bound maintenance machine (1) for maintaining a permanent way comprising a track grid (7) which is mounted in a ballast bed (6) and consists of sleepers (8) and rails (9) fastened thereon, comprising a lifting and levelling unit (4) for track lifting/levelling and a tamping unit (5) for track tamping. At least one rail machining unit (11) for continuously reprofiling the rails (9) is arranged on a machine frame (10). The elimination of rail defects contributes to increased stability of the adjusted track position because, after clearing the machined track portion, the rails (9) can be travelled on smoothly. The invention also relates to a method for operating the machine.
