[origin: WO2022214647A1] A method for checking a marking of a product. In an image capturing step (3) at least one image (4) of the marking arranged on a surface of the product is captured by a calibrated checking camera, and in a layout checking step (1), by way of the at least one recorded image (4), the quality of the marking applied on the surface is checked in relation to static data such as position and machine-readability. With the at least one image (4) recorded by the checking camera, in addition to the check of the quality of the marking in the layout checking step (1), in a code checking step (2), variable product information (12) contained in the marking is captured and the captured variable product information is compared with reference information from a reference information database (13). A correspondence characteristic variable is determined by means of the comparison.
