[origin: WO2023274457A1] The present invention relates to a method for monitoring a belt (10) of a belt drive (1), comprising at least the following steps: • detecting a detectable element (11) of the belt (10) during a revolving movement, • determining a first time of detection of the detectable element (11), • detecting the detectable element (11) of the belt (10) again during a subsequent revolution, preferably the immediately subsequent revolution, of the revolving movement, • determining a second time of detection of the detectable element (11), and • determining the speed of the detectable element (11) by calculating a time difference between the first time and the second time and by dividing the corresponding, preferably basic, length of the closed belt (10) by the time difference.
