[origin: WO2023279127A1] The invention relates to a method for storing or retrieving storage aids (6) in a rack (2) of an automated storage system (1) using a shuttle (7), the rack (2) having a plurality of rack supports (3) erected on a floor and a plurality of storage levels (4) having storage spaces (5), said method comprising the following steps: the shuttle (7) drives under the rack (2); the shuttle (7) vertically ascends on adjacent rack supports (3); the storage aid (6) is stored into the storage space (5) from the shuttle (7), or the storage aid (6) is retrieved from the storage space (5) onto the shuttle (7); the shuttle vertically descends to the floor; characterised by: driving out of the rack (2) and/or driving under the rack (2) on the floor with a driving direction along the longitudinal axis of the shuttle (7); rotating the shuttle (7) by 90 degrees; coupling the shuttle (7) by driving to only two of the adjacent rack supports (3), wherein the longitudinal axis of the shuttle (7) is positioned parallel to the front of the rack (2).
