    Description

    Field of the invention.



    [0001] The invention relates to a disc for a disc stack separator, more particularly, for a disc stack separator for a breathing system of a crankcase space of a combustion engine of a vehicle, comprising an annular conical section and a central part located therein and having at least one opening, which conical section is provided on one side with a plurality of ribs spaced from each other which are curved from the inner periphery to the outer circumference of the conical section, the conical section of the disc has recesses bordering on the outer circumference of the disc.

    State of the art.



    [0002] A disc of this type is known from WO 2007/114766 A1. This known disc is part of a centrifugal separator for separating particles out of liquid and has recesses at its radially outer portion which constitute axial ducts in a stack of discs for leading not yet separated liquid mixture towards the conical part.

    [0003] In vehicles with a combustion engine provided with a disc stack separator comprising such discs for cleaning the air in a crankcase space of the combustion engine it has turned out that the contamination outlet opening of the disc stack separator is clogged with the lapse of time by soot particles with all ensuing ill effects. One has not yet been able to establish the cause of the building up of these soot particles and efforts are made to find the cause outside the disc stack separator. Disc stack separators for cleaning gases are known from US 2004/025482 A1 and EP 1 772 193 A1.

    Summary of the invention.



    [0004] It is an object of the invention to provide a solution to the problem described above. To this end the invention is characterised in that parts of the conical section bordering on the spherical sides of the ribs are modified in such a way that the said recesses further border on the spherical sides of the ribs, so that soot building-up on the discs is reduced or even avoided. The invention is based on the recognition that the problem is caused by soot deposits on the discs of the disc stack separator which, when they increase in size with the lapse of time, come loose from the discs and cause clogging to occur in the outlet opening.

    [0005] In the disc according to the present invention parts of the conical section of the disc bordering on the sperical sides and bordering on the outer circumference are removed. It has turned out that at these very spots soot deposits are found. A removal of these parts reduces or even avoids soot deposits occurring on the disc.

    [0006] An embodiment of the disc according to the invention is characterised in that the recesses have in essence the form of a triangle, whose two corners are located in the place of the ends of two neighbouring ribs on the outer circumference of the disc and the third corner is located on or near the point of intersection of a perpendicular from the corner on one of the neighbouring ribs to the spherical side of the other rib.

    [0007] The invention also relates to a disc stack separator, more particularly, for a breathing system of a crankcase space of a combustion engine of a vehicle, comprising a housing with a rotary rotor therein carried in a bearing which comprises a plurality of discs axially arranged on top of each other, which housing has an outside space radially located outside the rotor, as well as an inside space located in the centre of the rotor, which housing further has an intake opening for exhaust gas, which intake opening is connected to the outside space, and a contamination outlet opening, which is also connected to the outside space.

    [0008] With respect to the disc stack separator, the invention is characterised in that the discs of the disc stack separator are designed according to the invention.

    Brief description of the drawings.



    [0009] The following description relating to the appended drawings, the whole given by way of non-limiting example of the disc stack separator according to the invention comprising discs according to the invention, will provide better understanding of how the invention can be realised, in which:

    Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the disc stack separator;

    Fig. 2 shows a side view of a disc of the disc stack separator;

    Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of the disc; and

    Fig. 4 shows a bottom view of the disc.


    Detailed description of the drawings



    [0010] Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the disc stack separator according to the invention for a breating system of a crankspace of a combustion engine of a vehicle. The disc stack separator 1 has a housing 3 with a rotary rotor 5 therein carried in a bearing, which rotor 5 comprises a plurality of discs 7 axially arranged on top of each other. Between the discs there are narrowed canals 8. The housing 3 has an outside space 9 radially located outside the rotor, as well as an inside space 11 located in the centre of the rotor. The housing 3 further has an intake opening 13 for exhaust gas, which opening leads into the outside space 9, and has an outlet opening 15 for cleaned air, which leads into the inside space 11, and a contamination outlet opening 17 which also leads into the outside space 9.

    [0011] In Figs. 2, 3 and 4 is shown a disc 7 of the disc stack separator in side view, perspective view and bottom view respectively. The disc 7 has an annular conical section 19 and located inside it a central part 21 provided with a plurality of openings 23. The conical section 19 is provided on one side with a plurality of ribs 25 spaced from each other (see Figs. 3 and 4) which are curved from the inner periphery 27 of the conical section to the outer circumference 29 of the conical section. The conical section 19 of the disc has recesses 31 bordering on the spherical sides 25a of the ribs and bordering on the outer circumference 29 of the disc. The recesses 31 have in essence the form of a triangle 33 (see Fig. 4), whose two corners 35 and 37 are located in the place of the ends of two neighbouring ribs on the outer circumference of the disc and the third corner 39 is located on or near the point of intersection of a perpendicular from the corner 35 on one of the neighbouring ribs to the spherical side of the other rib.

    [0012] Albeit the invention has been described in the foregoing based on the drawings, it should be observed that the invention is not by any manner or means restricted to the embodiment shown in the drawings. The invention also extends to all embodiments deviating from the embodiment shown in the drawings within the scope defined by the claims.


    Claims

    1. A disc (7) for a disc stack separator (1) for a breathing system of a crankcase space of a combustion engine of a vehicle, comprising an annular conical section (19) and a central part (21) located therein and having at least one opening (23), which conical section is provided on one side with a plurality of ribs (25) spaced from each other, which are curved from the inner periphery (27) to the outer circumference (29) of the conical section, the conical section of the disc has recesses (31) bordering on the outer circumference of the disc, characterised in that parts of the conical section bordering on the spherical sides of the ribs are modified in such a way that the said recesses (31) further border on the spherical sides (25a) of the ribs (25), so that soot building-up on the discs is reduced or even avoided.
     
    2. A disc (7) as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the recesses (31) have in essence the form of a triangle (33), whose two corners (35, 37) are located in the place of the ends of two neighbouring ribs on the outer circumference of the disc and the third corner (39) is located on or near the point of intersection of a perpendicular from the corner (35) on one of the neighbouring ribs to the spherical side of the other rib.
     
    3. A disc stack separator (1), more particularly for a breathing system of a crankcase space of a combustion engine of a vehicle, comprising a housing (3) with a rotary rotor (5) therein carried in a bearing which rotor comprises a plurality of discs (7) axially arranged on top of each other, which housing has an outside space (9) radially located outside the rotor, as well as an inside space (11) located in the centre of the rotor, which housing further has an intake opening (13) for exhaust gas, which intake opening is connected to the outside space, and an outlet (15) opening for cleaned air, which is connected to the inside space, and a contamination outlet opening (17) which is also connected to the outside space, characterised in that the discs (7) of the disc stack separator (1) are discs as defined in any one of the preceding claims.
     


    Ansprüche

    1. Platte (7) für einen Plattenstapel-Trenner (1) für ein Entlüftungssystem eines Kurbelgehäuseraums eines Verbrennungsmotors eines Fahrzeugs, umfassend einen ringförmigen konischen Abschnitt (19) und ein darin angeordnetes mittleres Teil (21) mit mindestens einer Öffnung (23), welcher konische Abschnitt an einer Seite versehen ist mit einer Vielzahl von Rippen (25) in einem Abstand voneinander, die vom Innenumfang (27) zum Außenumfang (29) des konischen Abschnitts hin gebogen sind, welcher konische Abschnitt der Platte Vertiefungen (31) aufweist, die an den Außenumfang der Platte grenzen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass Teile des konischen Abschnitts an den bogenförmigen Seiten der Rippen derart verändert sind, dass die Vertiefungen (31) ferner so an die bogenförmigen Seiten (25a) der Rippen (25) grenzen, dass Rußanhäufung auf den Platten vermindert oder sogar vermieden wird.
     
    2. Platte (7) nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Vertiefungen (31) im Wesentlichen die Form eines Dreiecks (33) haben, dessen zwei Ecken (35, 37) an der Stelle der Enden von zwei benachbarten Rippen auf dem Außenumfang der Platte angeordnet sind und dessen dritte Ecke (39) an oder nahe dem Schnittpunkt einer Lotrechten von der Ecke (35) an einer der benachbarten Rippen der bogenförmigen Seite der anderen Rippe angeordnet ist.
     
    3. Plattenstapel-Trenner (1), insbesondere für ein Entlüftungssystem eines Kurbelgehäuseraums eines Verbrennungsmotors eines Fahrzeugs, umfassend ein Gehäuse (3) mit darin einem Rotationsrotor (5), getragen in einem Lager, welcher Rotor eine Vielzahl von Platten (7) umfasst, die axial aufeinander angeordnet sind, welches Gehäuse einen Außenraum (9), radial angeordnet außerhalb des Rotors, sowie einen Innenraum (11), angeordnet in der Mitte des Rotors, hat, welches Gehäuse ferner eine Ansaugöffnung (13) für Abgas, die mit dem Außenraum verbunden ist, und eine Auslassöffnung (15) für gereinigte Luft, die mit dem Innenraum verbunden ist, und eine Kontaminationsauslassöffnung (17), die ebenfalls mit dem Außenraum verbunden ist, hat, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Platten (7) des Plattenstapel-Trenners (1) Platten sind, wie sie in einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche definiert sind.
     


    Revendications

    1. Disque (7) d'un séparateur d'empilement de disques (1) d'un système de ventilation d'un espace de carter de vilebrequin d'un moteur à combustion d'un véhicule, comprenant une section conique annulaire (19) et une partie centrale (21) qui se situe à l'intérieur et qui présente au moins une ouverture (23), laquelle section conique est dotée d'un côté d'une pluralité de nervures (25) espacées les unes des autres, qui sont incurvées à partir de la périphérie intérieure (27) vers la circonférence extérieure (29) de la section conique, la section conique du disque présentant des renfoncements (31) qui avoisinent la circonférence extérieure du disque, caractérisé en ce que les parties de la section conique qui avoisinent les côtés sphériques des nervures, sont modifiées de telle manière que lesdits renfoncements (31) avoisinent en outre les côtés sphériques (25a) des nervures (25) de façon à réduire, voire même à éviter, une accumulation de suie sur les disques.
     
    2. Disque (7) selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que les renfoncements (31) présentent sensiblement une forme de triangle (33), dont deux sommets (35, 37) se situent à la place des extrémités de deux nervure voisines sur la circonférence extérieure du disque, et dont le troisième sommet (39) se situe sur le point d'intersection, ou à proximité de celui-ci, d'une perpendiculaire en provenance du sommet (35) sur l'une des nervures voisines, vers le côté sphérique de l'autre nervure.
     
    3. Séparateur d'empilement de disques (1), plus particulièrement d'un système de ventilation d'un espace de carter de vilebrequin d'un moteur à combustion d'un véhicule, comprenant un logement (3) avec un rotor rotatif (5) supporté à l'intérieur dans un roulement, lequel rotor comprend une pluralité de disques (7) agencés de manière axiale les uns sur les autres, lequel logement présente un espace extérieur (9) qui se situe de manière radiale à l'extérieur du rotor, ainsi qu'un espace intérieur (11) qui se situe dans le centre du rotor, lequel logement présente en outre une ouverture d'entrée (13) des gaz d'échappement, laquelle l'ouverture d'entrée est connectée à l'espace extérieur, et une ouverture de sortie (15) de l'air épuré, qui est connectée à l'espace intérieur, et une ouverture de sortie des impuretés (17) qui est également connectée à l'espace extérieur, caractérisé en ce que les disques (7) du séparateur d'empilement de disques (1) sont des disques tels qu'ils sont définis dans l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes.
