(54)Motor control unit and vehicle electric power steering system


(57) A motor control unit (15) supplies three-phase alternating currents to a motor (11) by controlling switching of pairs of transistors (T1 to T6) of an inverter circuit (20). Values of the phase currents that are supplied to the motor (11) are detected by current sensors (30u, 30v, 30w). When it is determined that a through-current has occurred in the transistors (T1 to T6) on the basis of the detected phase current values, driving of the inverter circuit (20) is stopped. A first threshold is set for the phase current values, and a second threshold is set for the sum of the phase current values. It is determined that a through-current has occurred in the transistors (T1 to T6) when at least one of the absolute values of the phase current values is larger than or equal to the first threshold and the absolute value of the sum of the phase current values is larger than or equal to the second threshold.
