(54)Control moment gyroscopes including rotors having radially-compliant spokes and methods for the manufacture thereof


(57) Embodiments of control moment gyroscopes (CMGs (20)) are provided, as are embodiments of a method (100) for fabricating CMGs. In one embodiment, a CMG includes a stator housing (56), an inner gimbal assembly (IGA (24)), and a torque motor (58) coupled to the stator housing (56). The IGA (240 includes, in turn, a rotor support structure (28) rotatably coupled to the stator housing (56), a CMG rotor (22, 100) rotatably mounted to the rotor support structure (28), and a spin motor (48, 50) coupled to the rotor support structure (28) and configured to rotate the CMG rotor (22, 100) about a spin axis (52). The CMG rotor (22, 100) includes a rotor shaft (24, 104), a rotor rim (72, 104) circumscribing the rotor shaft (24, 104), and a plurality of radially-compliant spokes (74, 108) extending between the rotor shaft (34, 104) and the rotor rim (72, 104).
