Description

Technical Field



[0001] The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for performing handover in a radio Local Access Network (LAN) communication system.

Background Art



[0002] The handover scheme used in radio LAN communication systems is a scheme in which a STAtion (STA) measures Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSIs) by searching for its neighbor Access Points (APs) by itself, determines an AP to which it will perform handover, and then performs handover to the AP.

[0003] However, the STA performing handover needs to perform a scan operation for all channels because it cannot determine in which channels APs exist. Particularly, in an active scan scheme, if an STA broadcasts a probe request message over a channel and APs receiving the probe request message send a probe response message, then the STA measures RSSIs of the probe response messages received from the APs, and uses them in determining an AP to which it will perform handover.

[0004] A waiting time of tens of milliseconds (msec) is needed until an STA receives a probe response message after sending a probe request message in a process of scanning all channels to determine an AP to which it will perform handover as described above. The reason why the STA needs to wait for a waiting time of tens of milliseconds until it receives a probe response message after sending a probe request message in the channel scanning process is because the STA needs to prepare for the possible delay in a probe response message due to the channel contention between an AP and STAs, which is caused by the Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) characteristics of the radio LAC communication system.

[0005] As described above, the current radio LAN communication system uses the active scan scheme as its handover scheme, causing a time delay due to the channel scanning, and the time delay may cause an increase in the time required to determine handover.

[0006] In addition, an STA may suffer from an increase in packet delay time and a decrease in data throughput because the STA cannot exchange data with the AP (i.e., a serving AP), to which it is presently connected, while measuring an RSSI of an AP(s) operating in another channel.

[0007] Further, an STA may not determine whether the AP (i.e., a target AP), to which it will perform handover, can accommodate or cover the STA, because the STA performs handover after determining an AP to which it will perform handover. For example, while performing a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) call, an STA may not perform Call Admission Control (CAC) in terms of the VoIP capacity of the target AP.

[0008] Moreover, since an STA determines a target AP and then performs handover thereto, its AP may not determine the handover start time of the STA. Therefore, the data may be lost, which was transmitted to the AP, to which the STA was connected before handover, until the STA starts an access to the target AP after performing handover.

ITCCSCC, INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL CONFERENCE ONCIRCUITS SYSTEMS, COMPUTERS AND COMMUNICATIONS, 6 July 2004, pages 1-4, relates to handoff at the link layer 2 (L2) that consists of three phases including scanning, authentication, and reassociation. Among the three phases, scanning is dominant in terms of time delay. Disclosed is an improved scanning mechanism to minimize the disconnected time while a wireless station (STA) changes the associated access points (APs). According to IEEE 802.11, an STA has to scan all channels in scanning. This document, based on the neighbor graph (NG), discloses a selective channel scanning method with unicast for fast handoff in which an STA scans only channels selected by the NG.

Disclosure of Invention


Technical Problem



[0010] An aspect of exemplary embodiments of the present invention is to provide an apparatus and method for performing handover in a radio LAN communication system.

[0011] Another aspect of exemplary embodiments of the present invention is to provide a handover apparatus and method for minimizing the delay time required to determine to perform handover in a radio LAN communication system.

[0012] Further another aspect of exemplary embodiments of the present invention is to provide a handover apparatus and method for minimizing the packet delay time due to the execution of handover in a radio LAN communication system.

Solution to Problem



[0016] In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for performing handover by a STAtion (STA) in a radio Local Access Network (LAN) communication system. The method includes sending a Network Controlled HandOver Setup Request Information Element (Ncho Setup Req IE) message indicating that the STA is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme, to a serving Access Point (AP); receiving a Network Controlled HandOver Setup Response Information Element (Ncho Setup Rsp IE) message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA, from the serving AP; and broadcasting a probe request message to the serving AP and neighbor APs over channels according to the scan parameter included in the Ncho Setup Rsp IE message.

[0017] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a STAtion in a radio Local Access Network (LAN) communication system. The STA includes a transmitting unit; a receiving unit; and a control unit. The transmitting unit sends a Network Controlled HandOver Setup Request Information Element (Ncho Setup Req IE) message indicating that the STA is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme, to a serving Access Point (AP). The receiving unit receives a Network Controlled HandOver Setup Response Information Element (Ncho Setup Rsp IE) message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA, from the serving AP. The transmitting unit broadcasts a probe request message to the serving AP and neighbor APs over channels according to the scan parameter included in the Ncho Setup Rsp IE message.

[0018] In accordance with further another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for performing handover by a serving Access Point (AP) in a radio Local Access Network (LAN) communication system. The method includes receiving a Network Controlled HandOver Setup Request Information Element (Ncho Setup Req IE) message indicating that a STAtion (STA) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme, from the STA; sending the Ncho Setup Req IE message to an Access Point Controller (APC); receiving a Network Controlled HandOver Setup Response Information Element (Ncho Setup Rsp IE) message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA, from the APC; sending the Ncho Setup Rsp IE message to the STA; measuring, upon receiving a probe request message from the STA, a Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) of the probe request message; and sending a Scan Report Ind (STA) message including the measured RSSI to the APC.

[0019] In accordance with yet another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a serving Access Point (AP) in a radio Local Access Network (LAN) communication system. The serving AP includes a wired transmitting/receiving unit; a wireless transmitting/receiving unit; and a control unit. The wireless transmitting/receiving unit receives a Network Controlled HandOver Setup Request Information Element (Ncho Setup Req IE) message indicating that a STAtion (STA) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme, from the STA. The wired transmitting/receiving unit sends the Ncho Setup Req IE message to an Access Point Controller (APC). The wired transmitting/receiving unit receives a Network Controlled HandOver Setup Response Information Element (Ncho Setup Rsp IE) message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA, from the APC. The wireless transmitting/ receiving unit sends the Ncho Setup Rsp IE message to the STA. If the wireless transmitting/receiving unit receives a probe request message from the STA, the control unit measures a Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) of the probe request message. The wired transmitting/receiving unit sends a Scan Report Ind (STA) message including the measured RSSI to the APC.

The method includes receiving a Scan Mode (controlled scan) message indicating that a STAtion (STA) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme, from an Access Point Controller (APC); measuring, upon receiving a probe request message from the STA, measuring a Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) of the probe request message; and sending a Scan Report Ind (STA) including the measured RSSI to the APC.

[0024] As is apparent from the foregoing description, the present invention may make it possible to minimize the delay time required to determine to perform handover in a radio LAN communication system.

On the other hand, if the field value is, for example, '1', it indicates that the STA sent the Ncho Setup Req IE message when starting a VoIP call.

The length field 413 is a field indicating a length of the Ncho Setup Rsp IE. The status field 415 is a field indicating the success/failure of the Ncho Setup Req IE, and may be implemented with, for example, 16 bits. If a field value of the status field 415 is, for example, '0', it indicates that the Ncho Setup Req IE message was successfully handled. If its field value is, for example, '1', it indicates that the AP or the APC does not support the controlled scan scheme. If its field value is, for example, '65535', it indicates that handling of the Ncho Setup Req IE message is failed. The scan trigger level field 417 is a field indicating a level of RSSIscan_trigger, which is a scan operation reference at which the STA will start performing the scan operation. The scan channel time Tchannel field 419 indicates a time for which the STA scans one channel, and its unit may be, for example, [msec]. The scan home time Thome field 421 indicates a time for which the STA exchanges data with the serving AP during the scan interval, and its unit may be, for example, [msec]. The scan interval is set as a value determined by multiplying the time written in the scan channel time Tchannel field 419 by the number of channels, which is written in the Nchannels field 429. The Nchannels field 429 indicates the number of channels which are continuously scanned in one scan interval.

[0052] The scan interleave time Tinterleave field 423 indicates an idle time until the STA performs the next scan operation after it scanned all of CH1 to CHN, and its unit may be, for example, [msec]. The roam delta field 425 indicates a signal difference between the serving AP and the target AP, at which the STA attempts handover using the existing active scan operation method, and its unit may be, for example, [dB]. Channel numbers for CH1 to CHN are written in the CH1 field 433-1 to the CHN field 433-N, respectively. The Nprobes field 427 is a field indicating the number of times the STA sends a probe request message when performing a scan operation for one channel. The Nchanlist field 431 indicates the number of channels that the STA will scan to perform handover.

[0053] After sending the Ncho Setup Rsp IE message to the STA 210, the APC 250 sends a Scan Mode (controlled scan) message to the serving AP (i.e., AP#1 220) and its neighbor APs 230 and 240 to serving APs 230 and 240 in steps 221, 223 and 225. The Scan Mode (controlled scan) message is a message indicating that the STA 210 will use the controlled scan scheme, and upon receiving the Scan Mode (controlled scan) message, the APs 220, 230 and 240 may send no probe response message to the STA 210 even though they receive a probe request message from the STA 210, and may send, upon receiving a probe request message from the STA 210, an RSSI of the received probe request message to the APC 250. The Scan Mode (controlled scan) message includes a STAtion IDentifier (STAID) for the STA 210.

[0054] Upon receiving the Ncho Setup Rsp IE message, the STA 210 broadcasts a probe request message to the APs 220, 230 and 240 according to a field value of the Nprobes field included in the Ncho Setup Rsp IE in steps 227, 229 and 231. In FIGs. 2a and 2b, the field value of the Nprobes field is assumed to be '2', so the STA 210 broadcasts the probe request message two times.

[0055] The APs 220, 230 and 240 each measure an RSSI for the probe request message received from the STA 210 in steps 233, 235 and 237, and send a Scan Report Ind (STA) message for reporting their measured RSSI, to the APC 250 in steps 239, 241 and 243. The Scan Report Ind (STA) message includes an STAID of the STA, an RSSI, and an AP IDentifier (APID) of the AP.

1. A method for performing handover by a station, STA, (210) in a radio local access network, LAN, communication system, comprising:

transmitting a network controlled handover setup request information element, Ncho Setup Req IE, message indicating that the STA (210) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme in which access points do not send a probe response message to the STA after receiving a probe request message from the STA, to a serving access point, AP, (220);

receiving a network controlled handover setup response information element, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA (210), from the serving AP (220); and

broadcasting a probe request message to the serving AP (220) and neighbor APs (230, 240) over channels based on the scan parameter included in Ncho Setup Rsp IE message.


 
2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, after broadcasting the probe request message, a handover command message for commanding to perform handover to a target AP, from the serving AP (220); and

performing a data packet transmission/reception operation with the target AP by performing an authentication operation with the target AP.


 
3. A station for use in a radio local access network, LAN, communication system, comprising:

a transmitting unit (715);

a receiving unit (711); and

a control unit (713),

wherein the transmitting unit (715) is configured to transmit a network controlled handover setup request information element, Ncho Setup Req IE, message indicating that the STA is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme in which access points do not send a probe response message to the STA after receiving a probe request message from the STA, to a serving Access Point, AP;

wherein the receiving unit (711) is configured to receive a network controlled handover setup response information element, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA, from the serving AP; and

wherein the transmitting unit (715) is configured to broadcast a probe request message to the serving AP and neighbor APs over channels based on the scan parameter included in the Ncho Setup Rsp IE message.


 
4. The STA of claim 3, wherein after the transmitting unit (715) broadcasts the probe request message, the receiving unit is configured to receive a handover command message for commanding to perform handover to a target AP, from the serving AP;
wherein the transmitting unit (715) and the receiving unit (711) are configured to perform a data packet transmission/reception operation with the target AP by performing an authentication operation with the target AP.
 
5. A method for performing handover by a serving access point, AP, (220) in a radio local access network, LAN, communication system, comprising:

receiving a network controlled handover setup request information element, Ncho Setup Req IE, message indicating that a station, STA, (210) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme in which access points do not send a probe response message to the STA after receiving a probe request message from the STA, from the STA (210);

transmitting the Ncho Setup Req IE message to an access point controller, APC, (250);

receiving a network controlled handover setup response information element, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA (210), from the APC (250);

transmitting the Ncho Setup Rsp IE message to the STA (210);

receiving a scan mode message indicating that the station, STA, is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme from the APC; measuring upon receiving a probe request message from the STA (210), a received signal strength indicator, RSSI, of the probe request message;

refraining, upon receiving the probe request message from the STA (210), from sending a probe response message to the STA (201); and

transmitting a scan report message including the measured RSSI to the APC (250).


 
6. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

receiving, after transmitting the scan report message, a handover command message for commanding the STA (210) to perform handover to a target AP, from the APC (250); and

transmitting the handover command message to the STA (210).


 
7. A serving access point, AP, for use in a radio local access network, LAN, communication system, comprising:

a wired transmitting/receiving unit (815);

a wireless transmitting/receiving unit (811); and a control unit (813);

wherein the wireless transmitting/receiving unit (811) is adapted to receive a network controlled handover setup request information element, Ncho Setup Req IE, message indicating that a station, STA, is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme in which access points do not send a probe response message to the STA after receiving a probe request message from the STA, from the STA;

wherein the wired transmitting/receiving unit (815) is adapted to transmit the Ncho Setup Req IE message to an access point controller, APC;

wherein the wired transmitting/receiving unit (815) is adapted to receive a network controlled handover setup response information element, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA, from the APC;

wherein the wireless transmitting/receiving unit (811) is adapted to transmit the Ncho Setup Rsp IE message to the STA; wherein the wireless transmitting/receiving unit (811) is adapted to receive a scan mode message indicating that the station, STA, is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme, from the APC; wherein if the wireless transmitting/receiving unit (811) receives a probe request message from the STA, the control unit is adapted to measure a received signal strength indicator, RSSI, of the probe request message; and

wherein the wired transmitting/receiving unit is adapted to transmit a scan report message including the measured RSSI to the APC; and wherein the serving access point, AP, is adapted to refrain, upon receiving the probe request message from the SAT (210), from sending a probe response message to the STA (201).


 
8. The serving AP of claim 7, wherein after the wired transmitting/receiving unit (815) is adapted to transmit the scan report message, the recelvmg unit wireless transmitting/receiving unit (811) is adapted to receive a handover command message for commanding the STA to perform handover to a target AP, from the APC; and
wherein the wired transmitting/receiving unit is adapted to transmit the handover command message to the STA.
 
9. A method for performing handover by a neighbor access point, AP, including a target AP in a radio local access network, LAN, communication system, comprising:

receiving a scan mode message indicating that a station, STA, (210) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme in which access points do not send a probe response message to the STA after receiving a probe request message from the STA, from an Access Point Controller, APC, (250);

measuring, upon receiving a probe request message from the STA (210), measuring a received signal strength indicator, RSSI, of the probe request message;

refraining, upon receiving the probe request message from the STA (210), from sending a probe response message to the STA (201); and

transmitting a scan report message including the measured RSSI to the APC (250).


 
10.  The method of claim 9, further comprising:

receiving a data forward request message from the APC (250); and

performing a data packet transmission/reception operation with the STA (210) by performing an authentication operation with the STA (210) and an authorization, authentication and accounting, AAA, server (270).


 
11. A neighbor access point, AP, including a target AP for use in a radio local access network, LAN, communication system, comprising:

a receiving unit configured to receive a scan mode message indicating that a station, STA, (210) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme in which access points do not send a probe response message to the STA after receiving a probe request message from the STA, from an Access Point Controller, APC, (250);

a control unit configured to measure, upon receiving a probe request message from the STA (210), a received signal strength indicator, RSSI, of the probe request message; the control unit adapted to refrain, upon receiving the probe request message from the SAT (210), from sending a probe response message to the STA (201); and

a transmitting unit configured to transmit a scan report message including the measured RSSI to the APC (250).


 
12. The neighbor AP of claim 11, wherein the receiving unit is further configured to receive a data forward request message from the APC (250); and
wherein the sending unit and the receiving unit are further configured to perform a data packet transmission/reception operation with the STA (210) by performing an authentication operation with the STA (210) and an authorization, authentication and accounting, AAA, server (270).
 
13. A method for performing handover by an access point controller, APC, (250) in a radio local access network, LAN, communication system, comprising:

receiving a network controlled handover setup request information element, Ncho Setup Req IE, message indicating that a station, STA, (210) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme in which access points do not send a probe response message to the STA after receiving a probe request message from the STA, from a serving Access Point, AP, (220); and

transmitting a network controlled handover setup response information element, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA (210), to the serving AP (220); and

instructing the serving AP (220) and neighbor APs (230, 240) to refrain, upon receiving the probe request message from the STA (210), from sending a probe response message to the STA (201) by sending a scan mode message indicating that the station, STA, (210) is to perform a scan operation using a scan controlled scheme.


 
14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

receiving a scan report message including a received signal strength indicator, RSSI, of the STA (210) from the serving AP (220) and neighbor APs; and

transmitting a handover command message for commanding the STA (210) to perform handover to a target AP, to the serving AP (220).


 
15. An Access Point Controller, APC, (250) for use in a radio Local Access Network, LAN, communication system, comprising:

a transmitting unit (915); and

a receiving unit (911);

wherein the receiving unit (911) is adapted to receive a network controlled handover setup request information element, Ncho Setup Req IE, message indicating that a station, STA, (210) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme in which access points do not send a probe response message to the STA after receiving a probe request message from the STA, from a serving Access Point, AP, (220); and

wherein the transmitting unit (915) is adapted to transmit a network controlled handover setup response information element, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, message including a scan parameter related to a controlled scan operation of the STA (210), to the serving AP (220); the APC being adapted to instruct the serving AP (220) and neighbor APs (230, 240) to refrain, upon receiving the probe request message from the STA (210) from sending a probe response message to the STA (210) by sending a scan mode message indicating that the station, STA, (210) is to perform a scan operation using a controlled scan scheme.


 
16. The APC (250) of claim 15, wherein the receiving unit (911) is adapted to receive a scan report message including a received signal strength indicator, RSSI, of the STA (210) from the serving AP (220) and neighbor APs; and
wherein the transmitting unit (915) is adapted to transmit a handover command message for commanding the STA (210) to perform handover to a target AP, to the serving AP (220).
 


Ansprüche

1. Verfahren zum Durchführen eines "Handovers" durch eine Station bzw. STA (210) in einem Funk-Lokalnetz- bzw. -LAN-Kommunikationssystem, umfassend:

Übertragen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauanforderungsinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Req-IE-Nachricht, die angibt, dass die STA (210) einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, bei dem Zugangspunkte keine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA senden, nachdem eine Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA empfangen wird, zu einem versorgenden Zugangspunkt bzw. AP (220);

Empfangen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauantwortinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht einschließlich eines Scanparameters bezüglich eines gesteuerten Scanvorgangs der STA (210) vom versorgenden AP (220); und

Broadcasten einer Sondenanforderungsnachricht zu dem versorgenden AP (220) und zu Nachbar-APs (230, 240) über Kanäle basierend auf dem Scanparameter, der in der Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht enthalten ist.


 
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, ferner umfassend:

Empfangen, nach dem Broadcasten der Sondenanforderungsnachricht, einer "Handover"-Befehlsnachricht zum Befehlen, ein "Handover" zu einem Ziel-AP durchzuführen, vom versorgenden AP (220); und

Durchführen eines Datenpaketübertragungs-/-empfangsvorgangs mit dem Ziel-AP durch Durchführen eines Authentifizierungsvorgangs mit dem Ziel-AP.


 
3. Station zur Verwendung in einem Funk-Lokalnetz- bzw. -LAN-Kommunikationssystem, umfassend:

eine Übertragungseinheit (715);

eine Empfangseinheit (711); und

eine Steuereinheit (713),

wobei die Übertragungseinheit (715) ausgelegt ist zum Übertragen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauanforderungsinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Req-IE-Nachricht, die angibt, dass die STA einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, bei dem Zugangspunkte keine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA senden, nachdem eine Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA empfangen wird, zu einem versorgenden Zugangspunkt bzw. AP;

wobei die Empfangseinheit (711) ausgelegt ist zum Empfangen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauantwortinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht einschließlich eines Scanparameters bezüglich eines gesteuerten Scanvorgangs der STA vom versorgenden AP; und

wobei die Übertragungseinheit (715) ausgelegt ist zum Broadcasten einer Sondenanforderungsnachricht zu dem versorgenden AP und zu Nachbar-APs über Kanäle basierend auf dem Scanparameter, der in der Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht enthalten ist.


 
4. STA nach Anspruch 3, wobei, nachdem die Übertragungseinheit (715) die Sondenanforderungsnachricht broadcastet, die Empfangseinheit ausgelegt ist zum Empfangen einer "Handover"-Befehlsnachricht zum Befehlen, ein "Handover" zu einem Ziel-AP durchzuführen, vom versorgenden AP;
wobei die Übertragungseinheit (715) und die Empfangseinheit (711) ausgelegt sind zum Durchführen eines Datenpaketübertragungs-/-empfangsvorgangs mit dem Ziel-AP durch Durchführen eines Authentifizierungsvorgangs mit dem Ziel-AP.
 
5. Verfahren zum Durchführen eines "Handovers" durch einen versorgenden Zugangspunkt bzw. AP (220) in einem Funk-Lokalnetz- bzw. -LAN-Kommunikationssystem, umfassend:

Empfangen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauanforderungsinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Req-IE-Nachricht, die angibt, dass eine Station bzw. STA (210) einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, bei dem Zugangspunkte keine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA senden, nachdem eine Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA empfangen wird, von der STA (210);

Übertragen der Ncho-Setup-Req-IE-Nachricht zu einer Zugangspunktsteuerung bzw. APC (250);

Empfangen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauantwortinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht einschließlich eines Scanparameters bezüglich eines gesteuerten Scanvorgangs der STA (210) von der APC (250);

Übertragen der Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht zu der STA (210);

Empfangen einer Scanmodusnachricht, die angibt, dass die Station bzw. STA einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, von der APC;

Messen, nach dem Empfangen einer Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA (210), eines Empfangssignalstärkenindikators bzw. RSSI der Sondenanforderungsnachricht;

Unterlassen, nach dem Empfangen der Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA (210), eine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA (201) zu senden; und

Übertragen einer Scanberichtnachricht einschließlich des gemessenen RSSI zu der APC (250).


 
6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5, ferner umfassend:

Empfangen, nach dem Übertragen der Scanberichtnachricht, einer "Handover"-Befehlsnachricht zum Befehlen der STA (210), ein "Handover" zu einem Ziel-AP durchzuführen, von der APC (250); und

Übertragen der "Handover"-Befehlsnachricht zu der STA (210).


 
7. Versorgender Zugangspunkt bzw. AP zur Verwendung in einem Funk-Lokalnetz- bzw. -LAN-Kommunikationssystem, umfassend:

eine verdrahtete Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (815);

eine drahtlose Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (811); und eine Steuereinheit (813);

wobei die drahtlose Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (811) ausgebildet ist zum Empfangen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauanforderungsinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Req-IE-Nachricht, die angibt, dass eine Station bzw. STA einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, bei dem Zugangspunkte keine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA senden, nachdem eine Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA empfangen wird, von der STA;

wobei die verdrahtete Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (815) ausgebildet ist zum Übertragen der Ncho-Setup-Req-IE-Nachricht zu einer Zugangspunktsteuerung bzw. APC;

wobei die verdrahtete Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (815) ausgebildet ist zum Empfangen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauantwortinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht einschließlich eines Scanparameters bezüglich eines gesteuerten Scanvorgangs der STA von der APC;

wobei die drahtlose Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (811) ausgebildet ist zum Übertragen der Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht zu der STA;

wobei die drahtlose Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (811) ausgebildet ist zum Empfangen einer Scanmodusnachricht, die angibt, dass die Station bzw. STA einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, von der APC; wobei

falls die drahtlose Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (811) eine Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA empfängt, die Steuereinheit ausgebildet ist zum Messen eines Empfangssignalstärkenindikators bzw. RSSI der Sondenanforderungsnachricht; und

wobei die verdrahtete Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit ausgebildet ist zum Übertragen einer Scanberichtnachricht einschließlich des gemessenen RSSI zu der APC; und wobei der versorgende Zugangspunkt bzw. AP ausgebildet ist zum Unterlassen, nach dem Empfangen der Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA (210), eine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA (201) zu senden.


 
8. Versorgender AP nach Anspruch 7, wobei, nachdem die verdrahtete Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (815) ausgebildet ist zum Übertragen der Scanberichtnachricht, die rece1vmg-Einheit drahtlose Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit (811) ausgebildet ist zum Empfangen einer "Handover"-Befehlsnachricht zum Befehlen der STA, ein "Handover" zu einem Ziel-AP durchzuführen, von der APC; und
wobei die verdrahtete Übertragungs-/Empfangseinheit ausgebildet ist zum Übertragen der "Handover"-Befehlsnachricht zu der STA.
 
9. Verfahren zum Durchführen eines "Handovers" durch einen Nachbar-Zugangspunkt bzw. -AP einschließlich eines Ziel-AP in einem Funk-Lokalnetz- bzw. -LAN-Kommunikationssystem, umfassend:

Empfangen einer Scanmodusnachricht, die angibt, dass eine Station bzw. STA (210) einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, bei dem Zugangspunkte keine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA senden, nachdem eine Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA empfangen wird, von einer Zugangspunktsteuerung bzw. APC (250);

Messen, nach dem Empfangen einer Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA (210), Messen eines Empfangssignalstärkenindikators bzw. RSSI der Sondenanforderungsnachricht;

Unterlassen, nach dem Empfangen der Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA (210), eine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA (201) zu senden; und

Übertragen einer Scanberichtnachricht einschließlich des gemessenen RSSI zu der APC (250).


 
10. Verfahren nach Anspruch 9, ferner umfassend:

Empfangen einer Datenweiterleitungsanforderungsnachricht von der APC (250); und

Durchführen eines Datenpaketübertragungs-/-empfangsvorgangs mit der STA (210) durch Durchführen eines Authentifizierungsvorgangs mit der STA (210) und einem "Authorization-Authentication-Accounting"- bzw. AAA-Server (270).


 
11. Nachbar-Zugangspunkt bzw. -AP einschließlich eines Ziel-AP zur Verwendung in einem Funk-Lokalnetz- bzw. -LAN-Kommunikationssystem, umfassend:

eine Empfangseinheit, die ausgelegt ist zum Empfangen einer Scanmodusnachricht, die angibt, dass eine Station bzw. STA (210) einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, bei dem Zugangspunkte keine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA senden, nachdem eine Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA empfangen wird, von einer Zugangspunktsteuerung bzw. APC (250);

eine Steuereinheit, die ausgelegt ist zum Messen, nach dem Empfangen einer Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA (210), eines Empfangssignalstärkenindikators bzw. RSSI der Sondenanforderungsnachricht;

wobei die Steuereinheit ausgebildet ist zum Unterlassen, nach dem Empfangen der Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA (210), eine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA (201) zu senden; und

eine Übertragungseinheit, die ausgelegt ist zum Übertragen einer Scanberichtnachricht einschließlich des gemessenen RSSI zu der APC (250).


 
12. Nachbar-AP nach Anspruch 11, wobei die Empfangseinheit ferner ausgelegt ist zum Empfangen einer Datenweiterleitungsanforderungsnachricht von der APC (250); und wobei die Sendeeinheit und die Empfangseinheit ferner ausgelegt sind zum Durchführen eines Datenpaketübertragungs-/-empfangsvorgangs mit der STA (210) durch Durchführen eines Authentifizierungsvorgangs mit der STA (210) und einem "Authorization-Authentication-Accounting"- bzw. AAA-Server (270).
 
13. Verfahren zum Durchführen eines "Handovers" durch eine Zugangspunktsteuerung bzw. APC (250) in einem Funk-Lokalnetz- bzw. -LAN-Kommunikationssystem, umfassend:

Empfangen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauanforderungsinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Req-IE-Nachricht, die angibt, dass eine Station bzw. STA (210) einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, bei dem Zugangspunkte keine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA senden, nachdem eine Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA empfangen wird, von einem versorgenden Zugangspunkt bzw. AP (220); und

Übertragen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauantwortinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht einschließlich eines Scanparameters bezüglich eines gesteuerten Scanvorgangs der STA (210) zu dem versorgenden AP (220); und

Anweisen des versorgenden AP (220) und von Nachbar-APs (230, 240), nach dem Empfangen der Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA (210), das Senden einer Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA (201) zu unterlassen, durch Senden einer Scanmodusnachricht, die angibt, dass die Station bzw. STA (210) einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll.


 
14. Verfahren nach Anspruch 13, ferner umfassend:

Empfangen einer Scanberichtnachricht einschließlich eines Empfangssignalstärkenindikators bzw. RSSI der STA (210) von dem versorgenden AP (220) und Nachbar-APs; und

Übertragen einer "Handover"-Befehlsnachricht zum Befehlen der STA (210), ein "Handover" zu einem Ziel-AP durchzuführen, zu dem versorgenden AP (220).


 
15. Zugangspunktsteuerung bzw. APC (250) zur Verwendung in einem Funk-Lokalnetz- bzw. -LAN-Kommunikationssystem, umfassend:

eine Übertragungseinheit (915); und

eine Empfangseinheit (911);

wobei die Empfangseinheit (911) ausgebildet ist zum Empfangen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauanforderungsinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Req-IE-Nachricht, die angibt, dass eine Station bzw. STA (210) einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll, bei dem Zugangspunkte keine Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA senden, nachdem eine Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA empfangen wird, von einem versorgenden Zugangspunkt bzw. AP (220); und

wobei die Übertragungseinheit (915) ausgebildet ist zum Übertragen einer Netzwerkgesteuertes-"Handover"-Aufbauantwortinformationselement- bzw. Ncho-Setup-Rsp-IE-Nachricht einschließlich eines Scanparameters bezüglich eines gesteuerten Scanvorgangs der STA (210) zu dem versorgenden AP (220);

wobei die APC ausgebildet ist zum Anweisen des versorgenden AP (220) und von Nachbar-APs (230, 240), nach dem Empfangen der Sondenanforderungsnachricht von der STA (210), das Senden einer Sondenantwortnachricht zu der STA (210) zu unterlassen, durch Senden einer Scanmodusnachricht, die angibt, dass die Station bzw. STA (210) einen Scanvorgang unter Verwendung eines gesteuerten Scanschemas durchführen soll.


 
16. APC (250) nach Anspruch 15, wobei die Empfangseinheit (911) ausgebildet ist zum Empfangen einer Scanberichtnachricht einschließlich eines Empfangssignalstärkenindikators bzw. RSSI der STA (210) von dem versorgenden AP (220) und von Nachbar-APs; und
wobei die Übertragungseinheit (915) ausgebildet ist zum Übertragen einer "Handover"-Befehlsnachricht zum Befehlen der STA (210), ein "Handover" zu einem Ziel-AP durchzuführen, zu dem versorgenden AP (220).
 


Revendications

1. Procédé pour effectuer un transfert par une station, STA, (210) dans un système de communication de réseau d'accès local, LAN, radio, comprenant de :

transmettre un message d'élément d'information de demande d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Req IE, indiquant que la STA (210) doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé dans lequel des points d'accès n'envoient pas un message de réponse de sondage à la STA après avoir reçu un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA, à un point d'accès, AP, serveur (220) ;

recevoir un message d'élément d'information de réponse d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, comprenant un paramètre de balayage en rapport avec une opération de balayage commandée de la STA (210), à partir de l'AP serveur (220) ; et

diffuser un message de demande de sondage à l'AP serveur (220) et à des AP voisins (230, 240) sur des canaux sur la base du paramètre de balayage inclus dans le message Ncho Setup Rsp IE.


 
2. Procédé selon la revendication 1, comprenant en outre de :

recevoir, après la diffusion du message de demande de sondage, un message de commande de transfert pour commander d'effectuer un transfert vers un AP cible, à partir de l'AP serveur (220) ; et

effectuer une opération de transmission/réception de paquets de données avec l'AP cible en effectuant une opération d'authentification avec l'AP cible.

une unité de transmission (715) ;

une unité de réception (711) ; et

une unité de commande (713),

dans lequel l'unité de transmission (715) est configurée pour transmettre un message d'élément d'information de demande d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Req IE, indiquant que la STA doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé dans lequel des points d'accès n'envoient pas un message de réponse de sondage à la STA après avoir reçu un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA, à un point d'accès, AP, serveur ;

dans lequel l'unité de réception (711) est configurée pour recevoir un message d'élément d'information de réponse d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, comprenant un paramètre de balayage en rapport avec une opération de balayage commandée de la STA, à partir de l'AP serveur ; et

dans lequel l'unité de transmission (715) est configurée pour diffuser un message de demande de sondage à l'AP serveur et à des AP voisins sur des canaux sur la base du paramètre de balayage inclus dans le message Ncho Setup Rsp IE.


 
4. STA selon la revendication 3, dans lequel après que l'unité de transmission (715) diffuse le message de demande de sondage, l'unité de réception est configurée pour recevoir un message de commande de transfert pour commander d'effectuer un transfert vers un AP cible, à partir de l'AP serveur ;
dans lequel l'unité de transmission (715) et l'unité de réception (711) sont configurées pour effectuer une opération de transmission/réception de paquets de données avec l'AP cible en effectuant une opération d'authentification avec l'AP cible.
 
5. Procédé pour effectuer un transfert par un point d'accès, AP, serveur (220) dans un système de communication de réseau d'accès local, LAN, radio, comprenant de :

recevoir un message d'élément d'information de demande d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Req IE, indiquant qu'une station, STA, (210) doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé dans lequel des points d'accès n'envoient pas un message de réponse de sondage à la STA après avoir reçu un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA, à partir de la STA (210);

transmettre le message Ncho Setup Req IE à un contrôleur de point d'accès, APC, (250) ;

recevoir un message d'élément d'information de réponse d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, comprenant un paramètre de balayage en rapport avec une opération de balayage commandée de la STA (210), à partir de l'APC (250) ;

transmettre le message Ncho Setup Req IE à la STA (210) ;

recevoir un message de mode de balayage indiquant que la station, STA, doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé à partir de l'APC ;

mesurer, lors de la réception d'un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA (210), un indicateur d'intensité de signal reçu, RSSI, du message de demande de sondage ;

s'abstenir, lors de la réception du message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA (210), d'envoyer un message de réponse de sondage à la STA (201) ; et

transmettre un message de rapport de balayage comprenant la mesure RSSI à l'APC


 
6. Procédé selon la revendication 5, comprenant en outre de :

recevoir, après la transmission du message de rapport de balayage, un message de commande de transfert pour commander la STA (210) pour effectuer un transfert vers un AP cible, à partir de l'APC (250) ; et

transmettre le message de commande de transfert à la STA (210).


 
7. Point d'accès, AP, serveur destiné à être utilisé dans un système de communication de réseau d'accès local, LAN, radio, comprenant :

une unité de transmission/réception câblée (815) ;

une unité de transmission/réception sans fil (811) ; et

une unité de commande (813) ;

dans lequel l'unité de transmission/réception sans fil (811) est conçue pour recevoir un message d'élément d'information de demande d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Req IE, indiquant qu'une station, STA, doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé dans lequel des accès points n'envoient pas un message de réponse de sondage à la STA après avoir reçu un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA, à partir de la STA ;

dans lequel l'unité de transmission/réception câblée (815) est conçue pour transmettre message Ncho Setup Req IE à un contrôleur de point d'accès, APC ;

dans lequel l'unité d'émission/réception câblée (815) est conçue pour recevoir un message d'élément d'information de réponse d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, comprenant un paramètre de balayage en rapport avec une opération de balayage commandée de la STA, à partir de l'APC ; et

dans lequel l'unité de transmission/réception sans fil (811) est conçue pour transmettre le message Ncho Setup Rsp IE à la STA ;

dans lequel l'unité de transmission/réception sans fil (811) est conçue pour recevoir un message de mode de balayage indiquant que la station, STA, doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé, à partir de l'APC ; dans lequel

si l'unité de transmission/réception sans fil (811) reçoit un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA, l'unité de commande est conçue pour mesurer un indicateur d'intensité de signal reçu, RSSI, du message de demande de sondage ; et

dans lequel l'unité de transmission/réception câblée est conçue pour transmettre un message de rapport de balayage incluant le RSSI mesuré à l'APC ; et dans lequel le point d'accès, AP, serveur est conçu s'abstenir, lors la réception du message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA (210), d'envoyer un message de réponse de sondage à la STA (201).


 
8. AP serveur selon la revendication 7, dans lequel après que l'unité de transmission/réception câblée (815) est conçue pour transmettre le message de rapport de balayage, l'unité de recelvmg unité de transmission/réception sans fil (811) est conçue pour recevoir un message de commande de transfert pour commander la STA pour effectuer un transfert vers un AP cible, à partir de l'APC ; et
dans lequel l'unité d'émission/réception câblée est conçue pour transmettre le message de commande de transfert à la STA.
 
9. Procédé pour effectuer un transfert par un point d'accès, AP, voisin comprenant un AP cible dans un système de communication de réseau d'accès local, LAN, radio, comprenant de :

recevoir un message de mode de balayage indiquant qu'une station, STA, (210) doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé dans lequel des points d'accès n'envoient pas un message de réponse de sondage à la STA après avoir reçu un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA, à partir d'un contrôleur de point d'accès, APC, (250) ;

mesurer, lors de la réception d'un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA (210), mesurer un indicateur d'intensité de signal reçu, RSSI, du message de demande de sondage ;

s'abstenir, lors de la réception du message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA (210), d'envoyer un message de réponse de sondage à la STA (201) ; et

transmettre un message de rapport de balayage comprenant la mesure RSSI à l'APC (250).


 
10. Procédé selon la revendication 9, comprenant en outre de :

recevoir un message de demande d'envoi de données avant à partir de l'APC (250) ; et

effectuer une opération de transmission/réception de paquets de données avec la STA (210) en effectuant une opération d'authentification avec la STA (210) et un serveur d'autorisation, d'authentification et de comptabilisation, AAA, (270).


 
11. Point d'accès, AP, voisin comprenant un AP cible destiné à être utilisé dans un système de communication de réseau d'accès local, LAN, radio comprenant :

une unité de réception configurée pour recevoir un message de mode de balayage indiquant qu'une station, STA, (210) doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé dans lequel des points d'accès n'envoient pas un message de réponse de sondage à la STA après avoir reçu un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA, à partir d'un contrôleur de point d'accès, APC, (250) ;

une unité de commande configurée pour mesurer, lors de la réception d'un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA (210), un indicateur d'intensité de signal reçu, RSSI, du message de demande de sondage ; l'unité de commande étant conçue pour s'abstenir, lors la réception du message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA (210), d'envoyer un message de réponse de sondage à la STA (201) ; et

une unité de transmission configurée pour transmettre un message de rapport de balayage incluant le RSSI mesuré à l'APC (250).


 
12. AP voisin selon la revendication 11, dans lequel l'unité de réception est en outre configurée pour recevoir un message de demande d'envoi de données à partir de l'APC (250) ; et
dans lequel l'unité d'envoi et l'unité de réception sont en outre configurées pour effectuer une opération de transmission/réception de paquets de données avec la STA (210) en effectuant une opération d'authentification avec la STA (210) et un serveur d'autorisation, d'authentification et de comptabilisation, AAA, (270).
 
13. Procédé pour effectuer le transfert par un contrôleur de point d'accès, APC, (250) dans un système de communication de réseau d'accès local, LAN, radio comprenant de :

recevoir un message d'élément d'information de demande d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Req IE, indiquant qu'une station, STA, (210) doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé dans lequel des points d'accès n'envoient pas un message de réponse de sondage à la STA après avoir reçu un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA, à partir d'un point d'accès, AP, serveur (220) ; et

transmettre un message d'élément d'information de réponse d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, comprenant un paramètre de balayage en rapport avec une opération de balayage commandée de la STA (210), à l'AP serveur (220) ; et

ordonner à l'AP serveur (220) et à des AP voisins (230, 240) de s'abstenir, lors de la réception du message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA (210), d'envoyer un message de réponse de sondage à la STA (201) en envoyant un message de mode de balayage indiquant que la station, STA, (210) doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé.


 
14. Procédé selon la revendication 13, comprenant en outre de :

recevoir un message de rapport de balayage comprenant un indicateur d'intensité de signal reçu, RSSI, de la STA (210) à partir de l'AP serveur (220) et d'AP voisins ; et

transmettre un message de commande de transfert pour commander la STA (210) pour effectuer un transfert vers un AP cible, à l'AP serveur (220).


 
15. Contrôleur de point d'accès, APC, (250) destiné à être utilisé dans un système de communication de réseau local d'accès, LAN, radio comprenant :

une unité de transmission (915) ; et

une unité de réception (911) ;

dans lequel l'unité de réception (911) est conçue pour recevoir un message d'élément d'information de demande d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Req IE, indiquant qu'une station, STA, (210) doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé dans lequel des points d'accès n'envoient pas un message de réponse de sondage à la STA après avoir reçu un message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA, à partir d'un point d'accès, AP, serveur (220) ; et

dans lequel l'unité de transmission (915) est conçue pour transmettre un message d'élément d'information de réponse d'établissement de transfert commandé par le réseau, Ncho Setup Rsp IE, comprenant un paramètre de balayage en rapport avec une opération de balayage commandée de la STA (210), à l'AP serveur (220) ; l'APC étant conçu pour ordonner à l'AP serveur (220) et aux AP voisins (230, 240) de s'abstenir, lors la réception du message de demande de sondage à partir de la STA (210), d'envoyer un message de réponse de sondage à la STA (210) en envoyant un message de mode de balayage indiquant que la station, STA, (210) doit effectuer une opération de balayage en utilisant un schéma de balayage commandé.


 
16. APC (250) selon la revendication 15, dans lequel l'unité de réception (911) est conçue pour recevoir un message de rapport de balayage incluant un indicateur d'intensité de signal reçu, RSSI, de la STA (210) à partir de l'AP serveur (220) et d'AP voisins ; et dans lequel l'unité de transmission (915) est conçue pour transmettre un message de commande de transfert pour commander la STA (210) pour effectuer un transfert vers un AP cible, à l'AP serveur (220).
