    Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to a multi-cable socket connector, and more particularly relate to a multi-cable socket connector for connecting cables of a multi-cable to a terminal of a switch or other device.

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Electrical connectors are well known in the prior art. But when transmitting a high current, one cable for each phase is not enough and the requirement of designing the specific connector is raised. For example, at an ambient temperature of 55°C, current-carrying capacity of 1x70 mm2 cable is 245A, current-carrying capacity of 2x70 mm2 cables is up to 400A and the current-carrying capacity of 3x70 mm2 cables is up to 630A. Therefore, multi-cable should be used to transmit a high current. Furthermore, the actually carry current also depends on a lot of other factors, such as the kind of device, the assembly room and the ambient temperature, and so on. How to connect multi-cable to a terminal of a switch or other devices is among the major design requirements of high current transmitting cable connector.

[0003] The existing solutions of the multi-cable connector assembly are shown in Figs. 1A-1D. Two traditional connectors have several cables clamped together. However, these solutions are involved in a lot of drawbacks. In general, firstly, the connector has a low adaptability because the room to house different number of cables is different and the diameter of the connector has a fix value, so one connector can just be available for fixed number of cables. Secondly, thermal overheat problem is found occasionally because of clamping quality.

[0004] Two existing solutions of the multi-cable connector assembly are shown in Figs.1A-1D. One is for 2x70 mm2 cables solution, as shown in Fig.1A. The 2x70 mm2 socket connector assembly mainly contains the following parts: 2x70 mm2 socket connector 160 and 2x70 mm2 bushing 170. The first conductive part 162 of the conducting portion 160 has a hole 164, which is used for contacting the front cable core 149 of cable 142 when mounting. Next step, a crimping tool can be used to crimp the first conductive part 162 and two cable cores 149, so that they can be a whole. Next step is to insert the 2x70 mm2 socket connector 160 with two cables 142 into the bushing 170. The concaves 172 of the bushing 170 can limit concaves 161 of the socket connector 160. At last, after mounting a washer 151 and a screw 152, the connector can be fastened to a terminal 150 of a device. The other example is for 3x70 mm2 cables assembly solution, as shown in Figs.1C. The mounting steps are similar to the 2x70 mm2 cables assembly solution.

[0005] As shown in Fig.1B and Fig.1D, for the above-mentioned existing 2x70 mm2 and 3x70 mm2 cable solutions, there are several disadvantages. Firstly, because the cable is single core stranded wire, when insert two or three cables into the socket connector 160 or 180, sometime there are several pieces of thread 148 left outside of the socket connector. It is not easy to control manually. Secondly, it is not easy to crimp connector 160 or 180 and two or three single core cables 149. The special crimp tool is often needed for crimping. Thirdly, there will be two or three gaps 164 exist between the socket connector 160 and the cable cores 149. Cable cores cannot fully contact the inner surface of connector. It will influence the carry current and the temperature will rise. Fourthly, the cables can subtly swing when mounting and transporting. Fifthly, it is no convenient to change the cable number for these two traditional solutions.

[0006] In view of the foregoing, there is a need in the art to develop an improved a multi-cable socket connector to connect multi-cable to a terminal of a switch or other devices.
