    Description

    TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a field of mixing devices. Particularly but not exclusively relates to a mixing and dispensing apparatus for use in dentistry and orthodontics. Embodiments of the disclosure disclose to an apparatus for mixing and dispensing of alginate compound for making dental impression material.

    BACKGROUND

[0002] In general, dentists use a paste form, primarily an alginate paste to take a desired dental impression of a subject. Typically, the alginate paste may be obtained by mixing a liquid such as water with an alginate powder manually in adequate proportions. The mixed paste is transferred manually into a mould, after which the mould may be positioned around the teeth of the subject and allowed to solidify to obtain the desired dental impression. Obtaining a homogenous alginate paste by manual mixing is a time consuming and laborious task. Further, manual mixing requires skill and technique to obtain the alginate paste without any inconsistency and wastage.

[0003] With ongoing efforts, many apparatuses have been developed to mix the alginate powder and the liquid to obtain alginate paste having desired consistency. The conventional apparatuses comprise a mixing container, wherein adequate amount of the alginate powder and liquid may be added. The mixing container may be rotated to obtain the alginate paste. Further, the alginate paste is manually taken out from the container and transferred into the mould.

[0004] Though manual mixing is eliminated by the conventional apparatuses, the addition of material in the mixing container and dispensing of the paste still requires manual intervention. As the setting time for the alginate paste is very low, manual dispensing of the alginate paste may cause the alginate paste to set prior to its use. Further, precise amounts of the alginate powder and liquid must be selected for mixing to obtain the alginate paste, having a desired consistency. Furthermore, setting time of the alginate paste depends upon the quantity of alginate powder, quantity of liquid, mixing duration, temperature of the liquid and environmental conditions.

[0005] A conventional revolution-rotation stirrer as disclosed in JP2011045873 A (Norio et al.) comprises a rotating body firmly fixed to a revolution shaft pivoted on a substrate. The rotating body rotates in a horizontal surface. The stirrer further includes a container holder inserted and holds the stirring container that rotates centering around the rotational axis inclined in a rotation center direction of the rotating body at a position apart from the rotation center of the rotating body in a radial direction. The stirrer has a feeding-in opening for supply materials at a superior end on a second substrate parallel to the horizontal surface arranged at an upper position than the superior end of the container holder. Further, at the same time, a material supply pipe supplies the supply materials in a driving condition in the container holder axially-located and rotatably concentrically with the revolution shaft and in synchronism with the revolution shaft, by which a supply opening toward the container holder.

[0006] Therefore, a need exists for a mixing and dispensing apparatus to seek to mitigate one or more of the above disadvantages.

After the mechanism 20 is rotated for a predetermined speed and duration the brake unit 50 arrests the rotation of the rotary actuator 29 and positions the mechanism 20 in line with the actuation device 30 and the dispensing unit. After the positioning of the mechanism 20, the dispensing stroke may be performed by the actuation device 30 in order to compress and dispense the semi-liquid form of the powder material through the other end 12 of the cartridge 10. The dispensed semi-liquid form of the powder material is received in the tray placed in the dispensing unit. Vibrations produced by a vibrator coupled to the dispensing unit aids in vibrating the tray placed on the dispensing unit, causing deaeration of the semi-liquid form of the powder material. After the cartridge 10 is compressed and squeezed by the actuation device 30, the cartridge 10 can be disposed and replaced by a new cartridge 10 for the next cycle of use.

[0062] In another aspect, of the present disclosure provides a method of mixing and dispensing a semi-liquid form of a powder material. The method of the present disclosure includes placing a cartridge 10, in a cartridge holder 27, wherein the cartridge 10 is filled with the powder material. Further, one end 11 of the cartridge 10 is pierced, by the actuation device 30. After the piercing, the fluid is injected into the cartridge 10 through one end 11 of the cartridge 10, by an injection unit 40.

[0063] Further, the cartridge 10 is rotated by the mechanism 20, about a primary axis A-A of rotation and a secondary axis B-B of rotation to mix the powder material with the injected fluid. The cartridge 10 is rotated to obtain the semi-liquid form of the powder material.

[0064] Thereafter, the cartridge 10 is compressed, by the actuation device 30, to dispense the semi-liquid form of the powder material through other end 12 of the cartridge 10. Further, the dispensed semi-liquid form of the powder material is received by a dispensing unit, onto a tray placed in the dispensing unit.

[0065] The method of mixing and dispensing further comprises scanning of an identification code provided on the cartridge 10, by a scanner.

[0066] In another embodiment, based on the identification code, one or more parameters including temperature and amount of the fluid to be injected, speed and time duration of rotation of the mechanism 20 are received and determined, by a control unit.

[0067] In another embodiment, one or more commands are generated, by the control unit, for controlling the fluid temperature of a heat exchanger, for regulating the supply of the fluid to a fluid reservoir, and to rotate the cartridge 10 placed in the mechanism to uniformly mix the powder material with the fluid to obtain the semi-liquid form of the powder material.

[0068] In an embodiment, the received parameters from the control unit is displayed, by a display unit. In another embodiment, the display unit receives the parameters as user inputs from a user to modify the parameters determined by the control unit.

[0077] With respect to the use of substantially any plural and/or singular terms herein, those having skill in the art can translate from the plural to the singular and/or from the singular to the plural as is appropriate to the context and/or application. The various singular/plural permutations may be expressly set forth herein for sake of clarity.

[0078] It will be understood by those within the art that, in general, terms used herein, and especially in the appended claims (e.g., bodies of the appended claims) are generally intended as "open" terms (e.g., the term "including" should be interpreted as "including but not limited to," the term "having" should be interpreted as "having at least," the term "includes" should be interpreted as "includes but is not limited to," etc.). It will be further understood by those within the art that if a specific number of an introduced claim recitation is intended, such an intent will be explicitly recited in the claim, and in the absence of such recitation no such intent is present. For example, as an aid to understanding, the following appended claims may contain usage of the introductory phrases "at least one" and "one or more" to introduce claim recitations. However, the use of such phrases should not be construed to imply that the introduction of a claim recitation by the indefinite articles "a" or "an" limits any particular claim containing such introduced claim recitation to inventions containing only one such recitation, even when the same claim includes the introductory phrases "one or more" or "at least one" and indefinite articles such as "a" or "an" (e.g., "a" and/or "an" should typically be interpreted to mean "at least one" or "one or more"); the same holds true for the use of definite articles used to introduce claim recitations.

[0079] In addition, even if a specific number of an introduced claim recitation is explicitly recited, those skilled in the art will recognize that such recitation should typically be interpreted to mean at least the recited number (e.g., the bare recitation of "two recitations," without other modifiers, typically means at least two recitations, or two or more recitations). Furthermore, in those instances where a convention analogous to "at least one of A, B, and C, etc." is used, in general such a construction is intended in the sense one having skill in the art would understand the convention (e.g., "a system having at least one of A, B, and C" would include but not be limited to systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and/or A, B, and C together, etc.). In those instances where a convention analogous to "at least one of A, B, or C, etc." is used, in general such a construction is intended in the sense one having skill in the art would understand the convention (e.g., "a system having at least one of A, B, or C" would include but not be limited to systems that have A alone, B alone, C alone, A and B together, A and C together, B and C together, and/or A, B, and C together, etc.). It will be further understood by those within the art that virtually any disjunctive word and/or phrase presenting two or more alternative terms, whether in the description, claims, or drawings, should be understood to contemplate the possibilities of including one of the terms, either of the terms, or both terms. For example, the phrase "A or B" will be understood to include the possibilities of "A" or "B" or "A and B." While various aspects and embodiments have been disclosed herein, other aspects and embodiments will be apparent to those skilled in the art. The various aspects and embodiments disclosed herein are for purposes of illustration and are not intended to be limiting.
