(54)BATTERY PACK

(57) A battery pack may include a battery cell; a resistor operable to receive current from the battery cell; a switch operable to control whether current from the battery cell is provided to the resistor; and an electronic processor coupled to the switch and configured to control the switch to supply current from the battery cell to the resistor. The processor may be configured to detect a failure condition of the battery pack, and, in response, control the switch to discharge the battery cell through the resistor. The processor may be configured to receive a signal from a temperature sensing device indicating the temperature of the interior of the battery pack, determine that the temperature is less than a predetermined temperature threshold, and, in response, close the switch to provide power to the heating element.
