(57) A high speed powered railway bogie arrangement comprises a traction motor assembly
mounted from the locomotive body so as to be isolated from, but to swivel with. the
bogie. The motor drive shafts may be parallel to the axles of the bogie wheelsets.
A flexible drive train accommodates relative motion between the traction motor assembly
and the bogie wheelsets. A linkage between the bogie and the traction motor assembly
allows for some degree of lost motion between swivelling of the bogie and swivelling
of the traction motor assembly. By decoupling the mass of the traction motors from the bogie, "hunting" disturbances
of the bogie, which tend to arise at high speeds, are minimised. A Watt linkage between
the bogie and the locomotive body allows the bogie lateral freedom of movement with
respect to the locomotive body.
