(57) A carriage has a plurality of ground engageable wheels (206) mounted on a body (200),
and a pair of driving wheels (233, 234) independently drivable by drive motors (226,
227). The driving wheels (233, 234) are movably mounted on a chassis (214) so that
they can occupy a first position clear of the ground to enable the carriage to be
driven over the ground. The carriage may include a seat (210) which can be elevated
and tipped forwardly by motor driven actuators (273), (266) to enable the height of
the seat (210) to be adjusted and to assist a user to move from the seat (210) into
a standing position.
