(54)	Lock assembly actuatable by an electrical motor and/or a mechanical key

(57) A lock assembly which includes a key-driven shaft rotatable by a key (4,8) and a lock drive shaft (16) coupled to a locking bolt (LB) for driving the locking bolt (LB) to locking and unlocking positions. The assembly further includes an electrical motor having a motor transmission (20,22). Finally, the assembly includes a yieldable coupling which normally couples the motor transmission (20,22) to the lock drive shaft (16) in order to drive the locking bolt (LB) to locking or unlocking positions. The yieldable coupling is yieldable upon overload of the lock drive shaft (16) to decouple the motor transmission (20,22) therefrom. The key-driven shaft (14) is axially displaceable to decouple it from the motor transmission (20,22), thereby enabling the key-driven shaft (14) to drive the lock drive shaft (16) and the locking bolt (LB) to locking or unlocking positions.
