(57) A fuzzy interference device and method are provided according to which fuzzy rules are defined comprising a condition (IF) and a conclusion (THEN) part. The associated membership functions are calculated as an area (Si) and a center of gravity (Li) for each rule. When inference is made between a first plurality (n) of rules with a second plurality of rules, the result is a sum of the membership functions expressed as a sum of the areas (Si) and centers of gravity (Li).
