(54) Device with handgrip and method for spreading glue and the like

(57) The present invention relates to a device (1) for applying a glue layer with a spreading movement, comprising:
  • a spreader part (2) for moving thereof over a surface; and
  • a gripping part (4) for gripping the device (1) which is provided with a support part (6) for support against hand (4) or wrist, characterized in that the gripping part (4) comprises a bracket (6) which comprises an opening (7) for passage of the hand (H) in order to prevent cramp during prolonged use and which is arranged opposite the spreading edge of the spreader part (2).

Description

[0001] So-called glue applicators are used on a large scale for spreading glue, for instance for glueing floor covering to a ground. These glue applicators are usually provided with a substantially block-like gripping part, for instance of wood. During spreading of the glue it is necessary to apply continuous effort, whereby the hand develops cramp after prolonged use.

[0002] Known from the American patent specification US-A-4,254,980 is a glue applicator, wherein a trowel spreads glue over a floor surface wherein forming of blisters and callouses on the palm of the hand of the users is prevented as far as possible. The device is provided for this purpose with a handgrip having an assembly which comprises a padding for reducing the pressure being exerted on the hand.

[0003] A drawback of the known device is that it is intended for repeated use. A further drawback of the known device is that it is needlessly complicated in construction, whereby assembly is made more difficult. Repairs to such a complicated tool are often too costly to carry out.

[0004] The present invention has for its object to improve the above mentioned glue applicators and obviate the above stated drawbacks.

[0005] The device according to the present invention has for this purpose the feature that the gripping part comprises a bracket which comprises an opening for passage of the hand in order to prevent cramp during prolonged use and which is arranged opposite the spreading edge of the spreader part of the device.

[0006] The present invention further provides a method and a handgrip intended for a hand-tool.

[0007] The construction is preferably embodied such that the spreader part comprises a serrated metal plate for spreading glue or similar material.

[0008] Further developed embodiments of the device according to the present invention are specified in the sub-claims.

[0009] Further advantages, features and details of the present invention will moreover be elucidated in the light of the following description of a preferred embodiment, with reference to the annexed figure which shows a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the device according to the present invention.

[0010] A glue applicator 1 comprises a metal plate 2 which is provided on a side G facing toward a glue surface with recesses 3 whereby a serrated edge is formed. Arranged on the metal plate 2 on the side remote from the serrated edge is a handgrip 4, for instance moulded from one piece of plastic, which comprises an engaging part 5 and a bracket part 6 through which a hand H can be placed, wherein bracket part 6 supports against the back of the hand or preferably on the wrist.

[0011] For this purpose the recess 7 bounded by bracket 6 and engaging part 5 is approximately triangular so that a portion of the bracket 6 is situated a reasonable distance from engaging part 5.

[0012] In the shown preferred embodiment the metal plate 2 is further provided with a hole 8 for hanging the glue applicator 1 according to the present invention on for instance a nail.

[0013] The present invention is described with reference to the above described preferred embodiment; the rights applied for are however defined by the following claims, within the scope of which many modifications can be envisaged by the skilled person in this field.

Claims

1. Device for applying a glue layer with a spreading movement, comprising:

- a spreader part for moving thereof over a surface; and

- a gripping part for gripping the device which is provided with a support part for support against hand or wrist, characterized in that the gripping part comprises a bracket which comprises an opening for passage of the hand in order to prevent cramp during prolonged use and which is arranged opposite the spreading edge of the spreader part.

2. Device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the spreader part comprises a serrated metal plate for spreading glue or similar material.

3. Device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the bracket is manufactured from plastic material.

4. Device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the opening for passage of the hand takes a widening form on the side of the spreader part and extends therefrom in inward tapering manner.

5. Device as claimed in claim 4, wherein the recess has a rounded triangular shape.

6. Method for spreading paint, glue and the like, wherein a device as claimed in any of the foregoing claims is used.

7. Handgrip for hand-tool evidently intended for a device as claimed in any of the claims 1-5 and/or the method as claimed in claim 6.
