[0001] The present invention relates to a fixture for supporting the part being treated,
particularly for hide beveling machines and the like.
[0002] Conventional beveling machines for hides and the like generally have a cup-shaped
blade in front of which there is provided a roller for moving the part to be treated
which is arranged below a hide retaining shoe.
[0003] In front of the shoe, with respect to the travel direction of the part being treated,
a movable guide is provided having the purpose of guiding the edge of the hide that
must be beveled by cutting, which usually assumes a sector-like shape wherein the
cutting depth is greater towards the free edge and decreases towards the inside of
the part.
[0004] It has been found, for example with particularly soft hides, that the hide tends
to bend, thus forming defects in the cutting region, because the hide is not fully
supported proximate to the blade and accordingly there are irregularities in the width
of the beveling.
[0005] A fixture according to the preamble of the independent claim 1 is disclosed in FR
2 588 569 A which is considered as the closest state of the art.
[0006] The aim of the present invention is to solve the above problem by providing a fixture
for supporting the part being treated, particularly for hide beveling machines and
the like, which allows to support the hide up to the cutting blade, thus obtaining
a treatment which is always precise.
[0007] Within the scope of this aim, a particular object of the invention is to provide
a supporting fixture wherein it is possible to adjust at will and precisely both the
cutting depth and the cutting width while the hide is always perfectly supported even
in the case of soft or otherwise delicate hides.
[0008] Another object of the present invention is to provide a fixture for supporting the
part being treated which, in view of its particular constructive characteristics,
is capable of giving the greatest assurances of reliability and safety in use.
[0009] Another object of the present invention is to provide a supporting fixture which
can be easily obtained starting from commonly commercially available elements and
materials and is also competitive from a merely economical point of view.
[0010] This aim, these objects and others which will become apparent hereinafter are achieved
by a fixture for supporting the part being treated, particularly for machines for
beveling hides and the like, according to the present invention, comprising a roller
for moving a part being treated and a front movable guide characterized, in that said
roller is situated below a shoe which is arranged in front of a cup-shaped blade and
in that the front movable guide is laterally adjacent to said shoe in the travel direction
of the part being treated, said fixture further comprises a lateral movable guide
which is arranged laterally adjacent to said shoe along a direction which is substantially
perpendicular to the travel direction and ends substantially flush with said cup-shaped
blade.
[0011] Further characteristics and advantages of the fixture according to the present invention
will become apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred but not
exclusive embodiment of a fixture for supporting the part being treated, particularly
for machines for beveling hides and the like, illustrated only by way of non-limitative
example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of the fixture for supporting the part being
treated, particularly for machines for beveling hides;
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the supporting fixture;
Figure 3 is a partially sectional lateral elevation view of the supporting fixture;
Figure 4 is a front view of the supporting fixture, taken in the direction of the
axis of the cup-shaped blade;
Figures 5 and 6 are views of two different possible arrangements of the lateral movable
guide;
Figure 7 is a schematic view of the beveling of a hide.
[0012] With reference to the above figures, the fixture for supporting the part being treated,
particularly for machines for beveling hides and the like, according to the invention,
which is generally designated by the reference numeral 1, comprises a roller 2 for
the advancement of the part being treated, which is shown schematically and is designated
by the reference numeral 3. The roller 2 is arranged frontally with respect to a cup-shaped
blade 4 having a circular cutting edge on its front rim and a rotation axis which
is substantially perpendicular to the rotation axis of the advancement roller 2.
[0013] The advancement roller 2 is arranged below a shoe 5 which delimits in practice the
region for the passage of the part being treated 3, thus adjusting the depth and type
of the cut.
[0014] The fixture comprises a front movable guide 10 which can be arranged so as to adjust
the cutting width; for this purpose, it can oscillate about an axis which is substantially
parallel to the axis of the cutting blade.
[0015] The movable guide 10, which is laterally adjacent to the shoe 5 in the travel direction
of the part being treated, is connected to a supporting surface 10a which is in turn
supported by a first arm 11 connected to a first shaft 12 which is in turn connected,
at its other end, to a first linkage 13 whereon a first piston 14 acts; through its
translatory motion, the piston 14 rotates and positions the front movable guide 10.
[0016] The characteristic of the invention is constituted by the fact that there is provided
a lateral movable guide, designated by the reference numeral 20, which is arranged
in practice laterally to the shoe 5 in the direction which is substantially perpendicular
to the travel direction of the part 3 and ends flush with the cup-shaped blade 4,
thus providing support for the hide in the region that must not be affected by the
cutting action of the blade.
[0017] The lateral movable guide 20 can lie above the supporting surface 10a, supports the
hide and in practice prevents the hide from being cut in the region affected by the
lateral movable guide.
[0018] The lateral movable guide can also oscillate about an axis coinciding with the oscillation
axis of the front movable guide.
[0019] In order to adjust its position, the movable guide 20 is supported by a second arm
21 which is connected to a second shaft 22 which is coaxial to the shaft 12 and is
rigidly coupled to a second linkage 23 which protrudes radially from the shaft 22
and is connected to a second piston 24 so as to adjust, by means of the translatory
motion of the piston, the angular position of the lateral movable guide.
[0020] In practical use, therefore, it is sufficient to position the lateral movable guide
so as to delimit the region that must not be affected by the cutting action, and the
hide remains supported until it moves beyond the blade, thus allowing to adjust very
precisely the cutting width without encountering the problems that could be observed
in the prior art whenever the particularly soft hide did not have self-supporting
properties.
[0021] Further, the positioning of the lateral movable guide allows to always be certain
of the width of the beveling.
[0022] Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs,
those reference signs have been included for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility
of the claims and accordingly, such reference signs do not have any limiting effect
on the interpretation of each element identified by way of example by such reference
signs.
