(54) Lock assembly


(57) A lock assembly including a lock mechanism (12) to be received within a recess in a door or window stile (11), the lock mechanism having a lock cylinder (22) which protrudes in use from an exterior face of the stile into a housing defined at the exterior face of the stile by the backplate (23a) of associated door/window furniture (18a) secured to the stile (11) and, a cylinder protector (29) arranged to be received within said housing, and at the same time to receive within it the protruding portion of the lock cylinder, said cylinder protector being arranged to cooperate with the stile and said backplate to enhance the resistance of the fixing of the backplate against unauthorised removal of the backplate from the stile.
