    Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a method of handling and joining sectional steel elements together to form a load-bearing beam element, preferably for interaction with a separately-formed post footing, and a beam element made from sectional steel elements, (see US-A-2 697 453).

[0002] The use of standardised sectional beams of commercial-grade steel often means that the structure in question is of overlarge dimensions and unnecessarily rigid, which in addition to unnecessary use of material can also represent an increased hazard where the beam is to be used in close proximity to busy roads. Prefabricated sectional beams, moreover, take up more space than the detached sectional elements of which they are made up, which are easier and more economic to stack, store and transport. Prefabricated sectional beams therefore result in higher handling, storage and transport costs than detached sectional elements, which can be stored and handled and are only joined together to form a load bearing beam element at the place of use.

[0003] The main object of the present invention is therefore to devise a method of handling and joining at least two sectional elements together to form a load-bearing beam element, preferably for interaction with a separately-formed post footing. Another object of the invention is to provide a load-bearing beam element, which can be easily dismantled after a period of use, so that the constituent sectional elements can be individually handled and can thus be moved efficiently to intermediate storage depots/stores for subsequent use at a new place of use. The invention has a particular application in the erection of screening fences and/or noise screens, but can obviously also be used for signs etc.

[0004] This object is achieved in that the method and the beam element have the characteristics specified in the claims.

[0005] The invention will be described below with reference to examples of embodiment shown in the drawings attached, in which:

Fig. 1 shows a diagrammatic perspective view of the handling and joining stages of the beam element according to the invention,

Fig. 2a-2c show a diagrammatic perspective view of the attachment of the beam element to a post footing,

Fig. 3 shows a diagrammatic perspective view of the introduction of a combined noise screen and screening fence into channels of two beam elements located at a specific distance from one another.

Fig. 4 shows a diagrammatic perspective view of an alternative fitting of a combined noise screen and screening fence to the beam element in conjunction with the arrangement of the sleeve plate, and

Fig. 5a-5f show perspective views of various possible couplings of sectional elements and sleeve plates.

[0006] Figure 1 shows two angle section elements 1a and 1b being inserted one inside another to form a closed sectional beam 1. Also shown here are two sleeve plates 2a and 2b, which are fixed to the sectional beam 1 to form the beam element A. Fixing to the sectional beam 1 can be achieved by bolted connection or by spot welding.

[0007] Figures 2a to 2c show the assembly of the finished, closed beam element A, the post footing 3 in figure 2a being shown set in a body 4 in the ground. The beam element A is pushed down onto the post footing 3 and assumes the final position as shown in figure 2c. The screening fence and/or noise screen 5 is inserted into the beam elements A1, A2 from the top, these elements having already been fitted on the post footings, as shown in figure 3. If thought suitable, it is obviously possible to first fit the fence or the screening 5 to one beam element A1, which has already been fitted to the post footing in the body 41 and then to push the fence or the screen 5 into the beam element A2, which is held straight over the second post footing, before then pushing the beam element A2 down over the post footing in the body 42 in the ground.

[0008] Figure 4 shows an alternative method of fitting the screening fence and/or the screen 5, which is therefore done when fitting the sleeve plates 2b and 2'b to the sectional beams 1a and 1b respectively.

[0009] Figures 5a to 5b show perspective views of various possible embodiments of the invention. Figures 5c to 5f show other possible sectional elements and sleeve plates, which are outside of the scope of the claims.
