(57) In order to avoid competition with other components for a space, to thereby improve the degree of designing freedom, the power transmission apparatus (1) includes a transfer case housing (5) and supporting a ring gear (33) and a pinion gear (37) that orthogonally mesh with each other and form an orthogonal gear set, the transfer case (5) is divided into a first case part (65) and a second case part (67) along a division plane (63) that extends along an axis of rotation of the ring gear (53), and the first and second case parts and are fixed together along the division plane with bolts (77).
