    Description

[0001] The present invention concerns a method for making a hair extension.

[0002] A known method for making hair extensions consists in providing three threads which serve as supports or holders for the hairs in the hair extension.

[0003] The three threads usually have corresponding lengths and are connected to one another at a first far end, for example by means of tying and/or gluing.

[0004] The threads are provided with a colour which corresponds practically to the colour of the hair to be braided in order to reduce the visibility of said threads to a minimum.

[0005] While the hairs, for example natural hairs, are being applied, the three threads are held more or less tight.

[0006] Auxiliary means of various shapes are usually provided to that end.

[0007] In particular, the threads are held in a first clasping point with their first mutually connected far ends.

[0008] Meanwhile, the second far ends are not mutually connected and they are held at some distance from one another in three different second clasping points, also situated at some distance from one another.

[0009] The first clasping point and the second clasping points are positioned such that the threads are somewhat tightened or at least remain taut.

[0010] The hairs are integrated with one of their free far ends, individually or in strands, in a zigzag manner between the aforesaid threads.

[0011] This is preferably done rather near the second clasping points or at a position between the first and the second clasping point, as more room is provided there between the different threads.

[0012] As soon as said hairs or strands of hair have thus been braided between the aforesaid threads, they are shifted in the direction of the first clasping point where the threads are situated closer to one another.

[0013] In this manner, said hair or strand of hair is clamped between the threads.

[0014] In this way, the point where the threads come together systematically shifts in the direction of the second clasping point.

[0015] It is clear that this method is particularly labour-intensive and requires a lot of skill and much concentration.

[0016] Especially the eyes are intensely tried, as the position and passages of the hairs between the threads must be permanently watched.

[0017] Also, the present invention aims to remedy one or several of the aforesaid and other disadvantages.

[0018] To this end, the present invention concerns a method for making a hair extension, comprising the step of providing a first holder and a second holder in between which threads are provided which serve as a support or holder for the hairs or strands of hair in the hair extension, whereby the threads are connected to the first holder at a restricted mutual distance which is even practically zero, whereby the threads are connected to the second holder at a larger mutual distance, whereby a hair or a strand of hair, for example natural hair, is applied by providing a first far end or the first far ends thereof behind the two lower threads, inserting them between the middle thread and the upper thread, providing them round the upper thread, inserting them back between the upper thread and the middle thread, and subsequently providing them between the middle thread and the lower thread, where a free length is preserved, after which the thus provided hair or strand of hair is moved in the direction of the first holder, where the threads move towards one another, whereby the hair or strand of hair is thus clamped and fixed between the threads, whereby at least one of the threads is provided with a colour which strongly deviates from the colour of the hairs which are predominantly used for the hair extension concerned.

[0019] If, for example, a hair extension is made with dark hairs, one or several of the threads may be given for example a red colour.

[0020] This is advantageous in that, while the hairs or hair strands are being applied, a better visual survey is preserved.

[0021] Optionally, several threads are provided with a colour which strongly deviates from the colour of the hairs which are predominantly used for the hair extension concerned.

[0022] According to a special variant, threads with mutually different colours are provided.

[0023] If three threads are used to make a hair extension with dark hairs, the threads may for example consist of two dark threads and one red thread; two red threads and one dark thread; one dark thread, one red thread and one yellow or blue thread; one yellow thread, one red thread and one blue thread, etc.

[0024] It is clear that innumerable combinations are possible, but tests have shown that the colour red has a strong visually distinguishing character and considerably simplifies the process of making hair extensions.

[0025] The preconception that the use of such coloured threads might be visible when such hair extensions are applied is averted by braiding or knotting the hair extensions in a compact and highly qualitative manner.

[0026] In order to better explain the characteristics of the invention, the following example of a preferred embodiment of an arrangement as used when applying the method according to the invention is given by way of example only without being limitative in any way, with reference to the accompanying figure 1.

[0027] The arrangement as used when applying the method according to the invention for making hair extensions, represented in figure 1, is provided with a first holder 1 and a second holder 2 in between which are provided three threads in this case, in particular a first thread 3, a second thread 4 and a third thread 5.

[0028] These threads 3 to 5 serve as supports for the hairs or strands of hair 6 for the hair extension being made.

[0029] The three threads 3 to 5 have mainly corresponding lengths in this case, and they are connected to the first holder 1 near their first far ends 7A, 7B and 7C at a restricted mutual distance which is even practically zero here, since said threads have been mutually connected beforehand in this case, i.e. have been knotted.

[0030] The three threads 3 to 5 are connected to the second holder 2 near their second far ends 8A, 8B and 8C at a larger mutual distance.

[0031] According to the invention, at least one of the threads 3, 4 or 5, in this case the middle thread 4, has a colour different from that of the hairs, for example red, which for clarity's sake is represented by means of a dotted line in the figure.

[0032] It is clear that the thread can be integrally provided with such a deviating colour, or that only a few fibres thereof can be provided with a colour which is different from that of the hairs, or that other marks may be provided that can be visually distinguished from the hair.

[0033] A hair or a strand of hair 6, for example natural hair, is applied by providing a first far end or the first far ends 9 thereof behind the two lower threads 4 and 5, inserting them between the middle thread 4 and the upper thread 3, providing them round the upper thread 3, inserting them back between the upper thread 3 and the middle thread 4, and subsequently providing them between the middle thread 4 and the lower thread 5, where a free length of about one centimetre is preserved.

[0034] Next, the thus provided hair or strand of hair 6 is moved in the direction of the first far ends 7A, 7B and 7C, where the threads 3, 4 and 5 move towards one another.

[0035] The hair or strand of hair 6 is thus clamped and fixed between the threads 3 to 5.

[0036] It is clear that it is sufficient for the threads 3 to 5 to move towards one another, and that the threads 3 to 5 must not be provided in a plane.

[0037] It is clear that the simplified discernibility and observation of, in this case, the middle thread 4 simplifies the braiding.

[0038] The distinguishable character of the distinguishably coloured thread 4 relieves the eyes.

[0039] It is clear that two or all three threads can be provided with a colour which is preferably highly distinguishable from the hair colour being used.

[0040] Also the threads 3 to 5 can be provided with mutually different colours, which may further simplify the work.

[0041] It is also clear that the number of threads can be altered.

[0042] The invention is by no means restricted to the embodiment described by way of example and represented in the accompanying figures; on the contrary, a hair extension according to the invention can be made in many different ways while still remaining within the scope of the invention.
