Description

BACKGROUND

[0001] The invention relates to a seat.

[0002] The invention further relates to a furniture arrangement.

[0003] It is known seats or chairs that can be hung on e.g. an edge of a table. This may facilitate, for instance, cleaning of floor in the surroundings of the table. A problem with this kind of seats is that the table has to be provided with a special seat hanger element in which the seat is attached. The hanger element complicates the structure of the table and causes extra material and manufacturing costs.

[0005] Thereby a seat that is simple to hang up may be achieved.

[0006] Viewed from a further aspect, there can be provided a furniture arrangement comprising a seat as described above and a table comprising a table top, wherein the horizontal support element is said table top.

[0007] Thereby a simple furniture arrangement comprising a hangable seat may be achieved.

[0008] The arrangement and the method are characterised by what is stated in the independent claims. Some other embodiments are characterised by what is stated in the other claims. Inventive embodiments are also disclosed in the specification and drawings of this patent application. The inventive content of the patent application may also be defined in other ways than defined in the following claims. The inventive content may also be formed of several separate inventions, especially if the invention is examined in the light of expressed or implicit sub-tasks or in view of obtained benefits or benefit groups. Some of the definitions contained in the following claims may then be unnecessary in view of the separate inventive ideas. Features of the different embodiments of the invention may, within the scope of the basic inventive idea, be applied to other embodiments.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF FIGURES

[0009] Some embodiments illustrating the present disclosure are described in more detail in the attached drawings, in which

Figure 1 is a schematic side view of a detail of a seat,

Figure 2 is a schematic side view of a furniture arrangement,

Figure 3 is a schematic top view of a furniture arrangement, and

Figures 4a and 4b are schematic views of further embodiments of a seat.

[0010] In the figures, some embodiments are shown simplified for the sake of clarity. Similar parts are marked with the same reference numbers in the figures.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0011] Figure 1 is a schematic side view of a detail of a seat. The seat 1 is a stool without a back part. The seat 1 comprises a body part 2 that includes a chair base 3, and a seat part 4. The seat part 4 is attached to the body part 2 such that there is a slot 5 between a bottom side of the seat part 4 and the body part 2.

[0012] The slot 5 has height H and length L and width W. The slot 5 is accessible from side of the seat 1. The slot 5 is dimensioned such that a horizontal support element 7 may be positioned from said side in the slot 5, and point of supports 6 for holding up the seat 1 on said horizontal support element 7 are created in the slot. As can be seen in Figure 2, the seat 1 may incline a bit when hanging on the horizontal support element 7, but due to forces affecting in the slot 5 and dimensions of the slot, the seat 1 does not fall away from the support of the horizontal support element 7. The horizontal support element 7 may be e.g. a table top 12.

[0013] The profile of the seat part 4 may be flat as shown in Figure 1. Alternatively, the seat part 4 may comprise shapes that e.g. for enhancing ergonomics of the seat, such as shown in Figures 4a and 4b.

[0014] The material of the seat part 4 may comprise e.g. wood, wood laminate, metal, polymer, composite etc.

[0015] In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the body part 2 is construed from tube parts 8. In some another embodiments, the body part 2 may comprise plates or panels, wires, bars etc. Manufacturing material of the body part 2 may be metal, polymer, composite, wood, wood laminate etc. or any combinations thereof.

[0016] In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the chair base 3 is in form of a four leg base. The seat 1 may be stackable or not stackable.

[0017] In an embodiment, the body part 2 is attached to the seat part 4 by brackets 9, which brackets are arranged to create the slot 5 between the body part 2 and the seat part 4. Furthermore, the slot may end 5 to at least one of said brackets 9. The bracket 9 can be attached by weld, screw, screw-bolt, glue or it can be a part of the chair base 3 or seat part 4.

[0018] In another embodiment, the body part 2 comprises a geometry arranged to create the slot 5 between the body part 2 and the seat part 4. This kind of structure may be realized e.g. by bending the body part to extend upwards in a suitable way.

[0019] In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, there is a slot 5 all around the seat 1. Thus the seat 1 can be hung on the horizontal support element 7 from all sides of the seat 1. Some alternatives to use this kind of embodiment are shown in Figure 3. In another embodiment, the seat 1 comprises a slot 5 on just one side of the seat 1. In still another embodiment, the seat 1 has slot 5 on plurality of sides but not on all sides.

[0020] Regarding dimensions of the slot, in an embodiment the length L is more than the height H. In some embodiments, the length L is in range of 70mm - 100mm, and height H 20mm - 30mm. However, it is to be emphasized that another dimensions may also be selected. For instance, the length L may be equal or less than the height H.

[0021] In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the height of the slot 5 is limited by the seat part 4. In this embodiment, the structure of the seat may be very simple. However, in another embodiment, there is an auxiliary body 13 (shown by dashed line in Figure 1) arranged between the seat part 4 and the body part 2. The auxiliary body 13 serves as an upper limit or border of the slot 5.

[0022] In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the height H of the slot 5 is constant almost all the length of the slot 5. Only "shoulders" of the chair base 3 at the perimeter of the slot 5 cause deviations from the constant height. In another embodiment, the height H may be changing (decreasing or increasing) from the perimeter towards an end of the slot 5. The changing of the height H may be a continuous change, or there may be discontinuous changes in the height H, e.g. due to structural parts of the body part 2 and/or the seat part 4.

[0023] Figure 2 is a schematic side view of a furniture arrangement, and Figure 3 is a schematic top view of said furniture arrangement.

[0024] According to an aspect of the invention, a furniture arrangement 14 comprising at least one seat 1 as described in this description, and at least one table 11 having a table top 12. The slot(s) 5 of the at least one seat 1 is/are dimensioned such that the table top 12 can be used as the horizontal support element 7.

[0025] Figures 4a and 4b are schematic views of further embodiments of a seat.

[0026] In an embodiment, the seat 5 is provided with back part 10. The seat 5 may also comprise armrests, a folding table etc.

[0027] Figure 4a is showing an embodiment of the seat 5, the chair base 3 of which is in form of a sled base. The embodiment shown in Figure 4b comprises a chair base 3 that is in form of a five star base.

[0028] The invention is not limited solely to the embodiments described above, but instead many variations are possible within the scope of the inventive concept defined by the claims below. Within the scope of the inventive concept the attributes of different embodiments and applications can be used in conjunction with or replace the attributes of another embodiment or application.

[0029] The drawings and the related description are only intended to illustrate the idea of the invention. The invention may vary in detail within the scope of the inventive idea defined in the following claims.
