(57) A building panel for cladding purposes is described having inner and outer sheet
members 10 and 12 with complimentary aligned channels 16 and 28, the openings in the
channels lying opposite one another and allowing elongate ribbing (18,20,22) to be
secured therein to space the two sheet members 10 and 12 apart and to provide mechanical
strength. The ribbing typically comprises bent wire (18) in a zig zag form with the
bends of the zig zag flattened so as to allow a better joint between the ribbing and
the channels formed in the inner and outer sheets. Alternative ribbing comprises standard metal or wire mesh (30) or strips of metal
or plastics material (44) apertured at46to reduce density. A snap fit joint may be provided between the ribbing (58) and the inner and outer
sheets (68 and 70) by means of socket joints (60, 64; 62,66) or alternatively crimping
of the sheet material around the ribbing as at 14 may secure in the ribbing in place.
Braising or welding may alternatively be used.
