Connector suitable for use as a lamp holder |
(57) The invention concerns a connector suitable for use as a lamp holder, particularly
in underground mining applications. The connector is formed from a casing having a
base [14] and a cap [16] receivable on the rear of the base. The base [14] and cap
[16] are telescopically engageable and have ports for the ingress of electrical leads
[12], which are preferably sheathed in resilient insulating material. The forward
surface of the base is equipped with a socket [22] for a bulb [10] and the same surface
of the base provides anchorage for a transparent cover [30] for the bulb [10]. The
connector is characterized in that the walls of the ports nip the leads [12] to protect
the electrical connections within the interior of the casing. The connector protects
the electrical connections for the bulb [10] which diminishes the danger of shorting
in an environment where combustible gases are present.
