(57) A fluid mixing device in the form of a carburetor is described which has a system
for metering fuel. The carburetor includes an air passageway (16, 18), and a throttle
valve (14) which has a throttle aperture (26) and is movable across the air passageway
(16, 18) to control the effective cross-sectional dimension of the throttle opening.
The fuel metering system includes a fuel metering tube (40) extending through a complimentary
lateral aperture (46) in the throttle valve such that the throttle valve (14) is slidable
upon the metering tube (40). A longitudinal fuel distribution outlet extends (62)
along one side of the fuel metering tube and the effective length of the distribution
outlet (62) is controlled in dependence on the cross-sectional dimension of the throttle
opening by the position of the throttle valve (14). The flow of fuel through the distribution
outlet (62) is further controlled in relation to the pressure of air in the air passageway
(16, 18), in a number of ways.
