media, comprise a pair of applicators (4, 5) positioned on either side of the path
(X-X) of movement of the workpiece through the apparatus and maintained at earth potential.
A pair of charging members (6, 7) are also positioned on either side of the path (X-X)
of movement of the workpiece and are spaced from the applicators (4,5) so as to charge
the medium only after the medium has left the applicators (4, 5). When the path (X-X)
of workpiece movement is horizontal, a booster charging member (8) is provided below
that path to deflect the medium towards the workpiece. The booster (8) is supplied
with a voltage of the same magnitude as that of the lower charging member (7). The
polarity of the voltage supply to the booster (8) may be the same as or opposite to
that of the lower charging member (7).
