(54) Method of surface-hardening metallic parts


(57) L'invention concerne un procédé de durcissement iperficiel de pièces métalliques par nitruration ou nitrocar- fration.
Selon le procédé, on place les pièces à traiter dans un ur et on les maintient, à'une température comprise entre 10°C et 750°C, dans une atmosphère formée par introduc-On dans ledit four d'un mélange gazeux comprenant atamment de l'ammoniac et un composé accélérateur de la ssociation catalytique de l'ammoniac au contact desdites èces constitué par un gaz oxydant. Le gaz oxydant est du otoxyde d'azote et le mélange gazeux contient environ 0, % à 10 % en volume dudit protoxyde d'azote. L'invention s'applique au durcissement superficiel de èces en acier.
