(57) A nonconsumable electrode assembly (30) suitable for use in the production of metal by electrolytic reduction of a metal compound dissolved in a molten salt, the assembly (30) comprising a metal conductor (40) attached to a ceramic electrode body (10) by a metal bond (42) on a portion of the body having a level of free metal or metal alloy sufficient to effect a metal bond.
