film 12 and printing layer 13 associated with writing current probes 31 and 35 and
common return electrode 5. A printed letter P is shown.
The layer 13 comprises a thermally sensitive image forming compound and a finely divided
conductive material embedded in a suitable carrier. The carrier may comprise a polymer
binder e.e. polycarbonate, polyester, polyurethane, Kapton* and the conductive material may comprise suspended particles of, for example, zinc
iodide, zinc oxide, tin oxide, titanium dioxide or a mixture. The image forming compound
may comprise for example silver behenate, leucoform triphenylmethane dye. Appropriate
dye precursors and/or a roughening agent may also be present.
