An essential oil used as oral antibacterian |
(57) The bicyclic sesquiterpene 1-α-cadinol is present in plant essential oils, e.g. cubeb
oil and can be isolated therefrom.
The cadinol is used as antibacterian against anaerobic bacteria such as Streptococcus
mutans, in an amount of at least 1/50,000 by weight. It may be incorporated into a
foodstuff, chewing gum, dentifrice or mouthwash.
