(57) The invention is concerned with a washing and disinfecting apparatus, particularly
for roadside trash bins (7). The entire apparatus is advantageously mounted on a vehicle
(2) and comprises a robot, such as a hydraulically or pneumatically operated one,
which can lift and tilt trash bins (7) to be washed and disinfected, raise and move
into a working position a rotatable/translatable shower assembly (4) having one or
more jets (8) arranged to sweep the whole interior surface of a bin, lay down the
cleansed bin, and return the shower assembly (4) to its home position. The apparatus
further comprises a superheating boiler and a pump for pressurizing water to be supplied
to the rotatable/translatable shower assembly (4). The inner walls of the bin are,
therefore, cleansed by the combined effect of several actions, namely: at least one
mechanical action of dirt dislodgement afforded by the jet(s), a thermal action resulting
from the use of the superheated water, and a chemical action provided by the admixture
of a detergent to the water.
