(57) A process for passivating the adverse catalytic effects of metal contaminants, such
as nickel, vanadium and iron, in a cracking system comprising a reaction zone (10),
a regeneration zone (26) and a passivation zone (90), wherein a passivation promoter
selected from the group consisting of cadmium-tin mixtures, cadmium, germanium, indium,
tellurium and zinc and mixtures thereof is added to the cracking system. The passivation
zone (90) is maintained at an elevated temperature and may also have a reducing atmosphere.
