    (54) An entangled nonwoven fabric with thermoplastic fibers on its surface and the method of making same

    (57) There is disclosed an entangled nonwoven fabric having a layer of fusible fibers on one or both surfaces of a relatively thick layer of base fibers. The fusible fibers are either homofil or conjugate fibers having an exposed low melting point component which have a lower melting temperature than the base fibers. The thermoplastic fibers are located on the outer surface of the base fibers either prior to or subsequent to the entangling of the fibers. The mixture of base and thermoplastic fibers are then heated to a temperature to heat fuse the homofil fibers or the low melting point component of the conjugate fibers.
