(57) 57 A flaw detector for checking and continuously proving the integrity of railway
tracks rails is given a second role to additionally sense markers attached to the
rail webs. These markers, for example welded metal blocks, are arranged to reproduce
a code word in the flaw sensor outputs representing the location of the vehicle. The
code word is then transmitted, together with another code word representing the vehicle's
identity, to a central traffic control office via a radio communication channel. The
described arrangement may directly replace conventional track circuit apparatus.
