(57) The compounds of formula:
 in which
Ar represents an aryl, possibly substituted;
R represents a C1-C4 alkyl;
X represents a hydrogen, chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, a hydroxyl, or an acyloxy,
alkylsulphonyloxy or arylsulphonyloxy group;
n represents 0 or 1, where if n=0 one of R, and R2 represents a -CH2OH group and the other represents a hydrogen atom, and if n=1 both R, and R2 represent hydrogen atoms; are useful intermediates in the preparation of alpha-arylalkanoic
acids by rearrangement reactions. The compounds of formula I are prepared by reacting glycerin or one of its analogues
with the appropriate alkyl-aryl-ketone.
