(57) 0 The invention relates to an apparatus for ultrasonically inspecting a predetermined
area on an object, such as an end weld on a rod-like member to be used in a nuclear
fuel assembly. The apparatus includes a transducer mounting and angulating assembly (41-61) which
is supported from a positioning slide assembly (18-33) operable to adjust the position
of the first-mentioned assembly (41-61) along three axes perpendicular to each other,
and which mounting and angulating assembly includes a transducer carrier (45) movable
in an arcuate path centered on the focal point of a transducer (T) mounted thereon.
The transducer carrier (45) is operatively connected to a shaft (34) rotatable, e.g.
by remote control, so as to move the transducer carrier to desired positions along
said arcuate path. This arrangement permits the transducer to be aimed at a test area from various angles
without refocusing.
