(57) @ A self loading pistol type firearm has a reciprocating breech block slide carrying
an inertia-operated firing pin and striker. The pistol has a frame containing a firing
lock comprising a hammer, a sear, trigger, trigger bar, firing pin lifter, ejector,
hammer mainspring and strut, sear and ejector spring and a safety catch. The fire
arm has a firing pin which is held securely locked in the slide and has no free passage
forward until the trigger is pressed deliberately fully to the rear to discharge the
fire arm. The firing pin safety system allows the user to release the hammer from
a cocked to uncocked position by operating the safety catch with there being no danger
of discharging the chambered cartridge. The firing pin is itself engageable with a
detent to prevent firing operation and the hammer itself can be so positioned as to
hold the firing pin in engagement with the detent.
