Apparatus for use in a shower unit |
(57) Apparatus for use in a shower unit comprises a cylindrical brush (3) arranged to
be mounted in, for example a shower cubicle (1) on a rotatable spindle (4). A motor
(5) is provided to rotate the spindle, and therefore the brush. The brush (3) is mounted,
in use, beneath a shower head (2) and body shampoo is supplied to the shower head
(2) so that, in use, the rotating brush washes the body of a person standing against
the brush.

[0001] THIS INVENTION relates to apparatus for use in a shower unit.
[0002] According to the present invention, there is provided apparatus for use in a shower
unit, comprising a rotatable brush, means for mounting the rotatable brush in a shower
unit and means for rotating the brush.
[0003] It should be understood that, as used herein, the term shower unit includes any form
of self-standing shower cubicle, or a shower fitted over a bath, for example.
[0004] For a better understanding of the present invention, and to show how the same may
be put into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying
drawings, in which:
FIGURE I is a perspective view from the front and one side of a shower unit incorporating
apparatus in accordance with the invention and showing the use of the apparatus; and
FIGURE 2 is a perspective view from the back and the other side of the shower unit
of Figure I.
[0005] Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a shower unit, in particular a self-standing
shower cubicle I incorporating apparatus in accordance with the invention.
[0006] The shower cubicle includes a conventional shower head 2 controllable by conventional
taps (not shown). An elongate cylindrical brush 3 is secured to a spindle 4 rotatably
mounted in the cubicle I. The spindle 4 is rotated by means of a motor 5 which may
be either an electric motor or a turbine propelled by mains water pressure. Where
the motor is an electric motor, it is preferably mounted outside the cubicle 1.
[0007] An appropriate inlet, for example a tap, allows body shampoo or soap to be supplied
to the shower head 2. The shower head 2 is arranged to spray water containing the
body shampoo onto the rotating brush 3 so that, when a person stands against the brush
3, the brush will rotate against, and thereby wash, their skin. Of course, the body
shampoo or soap could be applied directly to the brush 3.
[0008] The arrangement is particularly useful for people who have difficulty in moving,
for example people suffering from rheumatism or arthritis.
I. Apparatus for use in a shower unit, comprising a rotatable brush, means for mounting
the rotatable brush in a shower unit and means for rotating the brush.
2. Apparatus according to Claim l, wherein the mounting means is arranged to mount
the brush so as to extend substantially vertically in the shower unit to enable the
brush, in use, to wash the users back.
3. Apparatus according to claim I or 2, wherein the rotatable brush is cylindrical.
4. Apparatus according to claim I, 2 or 3 wherein the rotating means comprises an
electric motor.
5. Apparatus according to claim I, 2 or 3, wherein the rotating means comprises a
water driven turbine arranged to be operated by a mains water supply.
6. Apparatus according to any preceding claim, wherein the mounting means is arranged
to mount the brush immediately beneath a shower head of the shower unit.
7. Apparatus according to Claim 5, further including means for introducing shampoo
or soap into the shower head.
8. A shower unit whenever incorporating apparatus in accordance with any one of the
preceding claims.
