(57) An electronic sound generating instrument utilizes digital techniques (20) to sense how hard any one of a plurality of operating members (14) on a keyboard is depressed. The instrument generates a desired or particular sound such as a musical note, with a desired parameter, such as volume, corresponding to how hard an operating member (14) was depressed.
