(57) The mechanically governed fuel injection pumping element disclosed is embodied with
a piston (16) in two stages (1,2), and a barrel (15) incorporating a gallery (7) which
inter- oonneats two pressure chambers (3,4) to the end of producing a dual injection
when the assembly is reciprocated by a common drive component (17), thereby providing
a more gradual rate of injection. In a preferred embodiment, the two stages (1, 2)
are proportioned such as to dictate the quantity ratio between the two injections,
and the interval of time separating them.
