(57) A marker is provided for attaching to articles to be identified, such as clothin
in a retail store. The marker includes a body section and a head section. The body
section retains an amorphous metal ribbon. The head section includes a smooth pin
and a separate, grooved pin. When properly connected together, the smooth pin extends
through the article with the distal end of the pin received in an aperture in the
body section. The grooved pin remains free of the article but extends into and engages
a lock assembly in the body section so as to positively retain the head and body sections
together. Since only the smooth pin passes through the article, damage to the fabric
is prevented. Further, the grooved pin provides positive retention of the head and
body sections together resisting unauthorized removal of the marker from the article.
