Purification of effluent liquors |
(57) Aqueous effluent liquors, for example those obtained from the fixed bed gasification
of coal with steam and oxygen, may be purified by subjecting said liquor, maintained
at elevated pressure, to flash evaporation thereby to produce a vapor product and
a liquid residue. The vapor product, comprising steam, may be used as a gasifying
agent in, for example, the fixed bed gasification process. A first portion of the
liquid residue is subjected to incineration and a second portion is recycled back
to the flash evaporation stage.
