[0001] This invention relates to an improved stand for reading, writing and the like in
any position.
[0002] More particularly, this invention provides a stand which is essentially intended
to help users for reading, writing, drawing, studying or any other similar activities
when users are being on a bed or similar furniture and resting horizontally or being
seated.
[0003] The use of such an apparatus allows a better concentration in any kind of activity,
because it reduces the physical tiredness of the user who is not obliged to support
the book, notes, copy-book and the like.
[0004] Similarly, it allows the user to remain with his arms under the sheets and the like
of the bed, since he does not need his arms, or the latter remain free for any other
activity.
[0005] Such an apparatus can be put away in spaces of reduced sizes without difficulties.
[0006] Also, in case of the user falling asleep when reading, the book will not cause any
discomfort, since it will remain on its support without being damaged.
[0007] In general, the apparatus according to the invention is composed of a transparent
platform or table provided with one or two flanges at its lower part in order to prevent
the books, notes and the like to slip downwardly. Said table can be orientated as
desired and maybe also regulated to any suitable elevation.
[0008] Optionally, the stand according to the invention may comprise a lighting device,
as well as an ashtray, an auxiliary box or other utensils.
[0009] In order to make the description clearer, the invention is more completely described
hereinafter by way of an example with reference to the enclosed non-limitative drawings.
Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional elevation view of the stand according to the invention.
Fig. 2 shows details of the regulation means for the table or platform angle.
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view along lines III-III of Fig. 2.
[0010] Referring to the drawings, the stand according to the invention comprises a transparent
platform or table 1, a controllable support 2, a means 3 for controlling the table
angle, a curved tube portion 4, a rectilinear rotatable tube portion 5, a means 6
for controlling the elevation, a hollow mounting tube 7, a supporting foot 8, an
optional ashtray 9 or support for other articles, an electric cable 10, a bed or other
fixture 11 and an optimal lighting apparatus 12.
[0011] The electric bulb 12 will be mounted into a flexible bearer, and will be supplied
by batteries or connected to the town mains.
[0012] The operation or use is as follows.
For reading : it is simply necessary to place the book on the transparent table 1,
open pages downwardly, and as this table is transparent and the user is under this
table, two pages of the book are free for reading, the only thing to provide is a
regulation of the elevation thanks to the control means 6 and a regulation of the
table tilting as desired. When both pages have been completely read, by raising the
book a new leaf is turned over and the book is located again on table 1.
[0013] For writing : the table is arranged in a substantially vertical position, and the
papers, copy-book or the like are born thereon and they cannot fall since the above-mentioned
flange prevents such a fall.
[0014] When the user is seated, he has to place the books, notes and the like with the pages
upwardly, on the table, and the latter is orientated as desired with respect to its
elevation and angle.
[0015] It has to be understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment such
as described and that many variants can be made when considering the shape, the materials
and so on.
Improved stand for reading, writing and the like in any position, characterized in
that it essentially comprises a platform or table (1) which is preferably transparent,
comprising one or two flanges at its lower part in order to support books and the
like, this table being able to be orientated according to the desired angle thanks
to a control means (3) and also in elevation thanks to a control means (6) blocking
the telescopic tubes (5) and (7), forming the support, the upper tube comprising a
curved portion (4), while the lower tube has a foot (8) associated therewith.
