    (54) Flame arrestor and method of manufacture


    (57) The invention teaches a method of spacing the elements (20, 16) of a flame arrestor and securing that spacing in a simple and economical manner. A shim (12) is used to space the elements (20, 16), the elements (20, 16) are welded together and the shim (12) is removed. This leaves a controlled flow path between the elements (20, 16) but the spacing is such to prevent the propagation of a flame through the arrestor.
