    (54) An ornamental clock


    (57) An ornamental clock comprising an ornamental glass body (1) which has a recess (7) in which a mount (8) is disposed. In the mount (8) there is a removable clock (2) which has a clock case (21) on whose outer wall (19) there are set wheels (14).




    Description


    [0001] The present invention relates to an ornamental clock.

    [0002] An ornamental clock consists of a clock disposed in an ornamental body to enhance the clock. Such ornamental bodies may be made of wood, metal or glass. In the case of ornamental bodies made of glass, in particular cut glass bodies, the clock must be firmly disposed in the ornamental body, on the one hand, and easy to attend to, on the other hand. Due to the magnifying effect of the cut glass, the means of attachment, such as screws, clamps, etc., are magnified in such a way that the esthetic appearance of the ornamental clock is impaired. If the clock is attached to the ornamental body by means of adhesive, however, this preserves the clock's esthetic appearance but makes it difficult to attend to it, as­suming the operating elements, e.g. the set wheels, are to be invisible.

    [0003] The present invention is therefore based on the problem of providing an ornamental clock of the aforesaid type which has an appealing esthetic appearance and is easy to attend to.

    [0004] The subject of the present invention is an ornamental clock comprising an ornamental glass body with a recess, a mount held in the recess and a clock disposed in the mount, the clock having a clock case on whose outer wall there are set wheels.

    [0005] In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the mount has a bottom and a side wall, an annular groove is disposed on the outer side of the side wall and an O-ring made of transparent elastic material is disposed in the annular groove.

    [0006] In a further embodiment, the mount may have on its side wall a trans­parent collar.

    [0007] Further, the clock is preferably pivoted to the mount by means of a joint.

    [0008] In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the recess in the ornamental glass body is of cylindrical shape.

    [0009] In a further preferred embodiment, the ornamental glass body has a pyramid-shaped portion and a truncated pyramid interconnected via their bases.

    [0010] In yet another embodiment, small feet are provided on the side surface of the pyramid-shaped portion.

    [0011] Since a mount is provided in the ornamental body, the operating ele­ments of the clock are hidden, whereby the clock can be easily removed from the mount when it requires attention.

    [0012] For the attachment of the mount to the recess in the ornamental glass body, the mount has on the outer surface of its side wall an annular groove in which an O-ring made of a transparent elastic material is disposed.

    [0013] This allows for a clamped connection between the mount and the recess in the ornamental glass body which, in spite of the magnifying effect of the ornamental glass body, is more or less invisible and which does not impair the elastic appearance of the ornamental clock.

    [0014] Instead of a groove and a transparent O-ring it is also possible to provide a transparent collar made of an elastic material on the outer surface of the side wall of the mount. This type of attachment does not impair the esthetic appearance of the ornamental clock either.

    [0015] According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the clock is pivoted to the mount by means of a joint.

    [0016] This allows for the clock to be swung easily out of the mount when it requires attention.

    [0017] The recess in the ornamental glass body is expediently cylindrical. This allows for simple production of the recess and a good connection with the mount.

    [0018] According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the ornamental glass body has a pyramid-shaped portion and a truncated pyramid interconnected by their bases. On the outer surface there are small feet provided in the area of the edge of the pyramid-shaped por­tion. This ensures the stability of the clock whereby the clock is disposed in such a way as to allow the time to be read well.

    [0019] An exemplary embodiment of the present invention is shown in the draw­ing and shall be described in the following in more detail.

    [0020] The figure shows a side view of the ornamental clock in partial cross­section.

    [0021] The figure shows a pyramid-shaped ornamental glass body 1. Ornamental glass body 1 is provided in the embodiment shown, in the form of a precious stone, with a rose cut on its upper portion adjacent pyramid-­shaped portion 15, resulting in a truncated pyramid 16. This means that ornamental glass body 1 consists of a multi-surface pyramid-shaped por­tion 15 and a truncated pyramid 16 interconnected by their bases.

    [0022] In the upper free flat surface of truncated pyramid 16, a recess 7 is worked in which has a depth slightly greater than the thickness of clock 2 to be provided. Recess 7 is cylindrical in the embodiment shown. It may also be rectangular or square if clock 2 has a different format or if ornamental glass body 1 has a different shape. However, a cylindrical recess 7 can be most simply produced.

    [0023] In order to ensure the stability of ornamental glass body 1, which is to lie on a supporting surface with the side surface of the pyramid, two small feet 3 are spaced from each other in the area of the edge of the side surface of the pyramid.

    [0024] A metal mount 8 is disposed in recess 7. It is also possible to make mount 8 out of a suitable plastics material. Mount 8 is also cylindrical and has a bottom 17 and a side surface 18. At the upper edge of side surface 18 there is an outwardly extending flange 13 which serves as a stop when mount 8 is inserted into recess 7 and, on the other hand, covers the transition from mount 8 to recess 7 in ornamental glass body 1, thereby improving the esthetic impression.

    [0025] Side wall 18 is provided on its outer side with an annular groove 10 extending all around side wall 18. An O-ring 11 made of a transparent and elastic material is disposed in annular groove 10. O-ring 11 is deformed when mount 8 is inserted into recess 7 and, due to its elastic­ity, fixes mount 8 in recess 7. It is also possible to replace groove 10 and O-ring 11 by other means of attachment which do not impair the esthetic appearance of clock 2. For example, one may dispose around side wall 18 a collar made of a transparent and elastic material which resil­iently engages the side wall of recess 7 when mount 8 is disposed in recess 7.

    [0026] On flange 13 of mount 8 there is a hinge worked into flange 13 or a joint 12 for pivoting an outer edge 20 of clock 2 to flange 13 at one place. Outer edge 20 of clock 2 also has a gripping recess 4 allowing clock 2 to be moved out of mount 8 more easily, one grasping under outer edge 20 with one's fingernail, for example. Such a recess may also be provided in flange 13 of mount 8, in which case outer edge 20 of clock 2 need not have a gripping recess. On outer wall 19 of clock case 21 there is a locking nose 5 to be engaged with a recess 9 disposed on the inner side of side wall 18 of mount 8 when clock 2 is being disposed in mount 8. Further, set wheels 14 for setting or winding the clock are disposed on outer wall 19 of clock case 21.

    [0027] To assemble the ornamental clock, clock 2 is connected with mount 8 via joint 12, O-ring 11 is then disposed in annular groove 10 on the outer side of side wall 18, and mount 8 is inserted into recess 7 of ornamental glass body 1, where it is fixed by O-ring 11 in more or less invisible fashion. Clock 2 is then set up with the side surface of the pyramid, the twelve on the face being expediently disposed opposite the small feet.

    [0028] The invention provides an ornamental clock which has a very esthetic appearance, since the operating elements are hidden, but is still easy and comfortable to attend to.


    Claims

    1. An ornamental clock comprising an ornamental glass body (1) with a recess (7), a mount (8) held in the recess (7) and a removable clock (2) disposed in the mount (8), the clock having a clock case (21) on whose outer wall (19) there are set wheels (14).
     
    2. An ornamental clock according to claim 1, wherein the mount (8) has a bottom (17) and a side wall (18), an annular groove (10) is dis­posed on the outer side of the side wall (18), and an O-ring (11) made of transparent elastic material is disposed in the annular groove (10).
     
    3. An ornamental clock according to claim 1, wherein the mount (8) has on its side wall a transparent collar made of elastic material.
     
    4. An ornamental clock according to claim 1, wherein the clock (2) is pivoted to the mount (8) by means of a joint (12).
     
    5. An ornamental clock according to claim 1, wherein the recess (7) of the ornamental glass body (1) is cylindrical.
     
    6. An ornamental clock according to claim 1, wherein the ornamental glass body (1) has a pyramid-shaped portion (15) and a truncated pyramid (16) interconnected with their bases.
     
    7. An ornamental clock according to claim 1, wherein small feet (3) are provided on the side surface of the pyramid-shaped portion (15).
